Facebook’s own Mark Zuckerberg was recently on Clubhouse. Although it is not totally unusual for the CEO of one social media service to use another, this one is more notably for a variety of reasons, including Facebook’s tendency to take feature inspiration from other services and the unique nature of the audio-only app.

Clubhouse is a popular social media service among journalists, as well as those interested in tech in general. In spite of this, it is a very limiting service at the moment with no support for Android devices and the use of an invite-only format for new users. However, getting an invite doesn’t seem to be too much of a problem for celebrities and people of interest, with many having been spotted using Clubhouse, including Elon Musk.

Following Musk’s appearance, Zuckerberg was live on Clubhouse on Thursday. According to Business Insider, the Facebook CEO took part in “The Good Time Show.” This is the same late-night Clubhouse talk show that Musk recently took part in. Zuckerberg was there to talk about Facebook Reality Labs and remote working, among other things. At one point combining the VR/AR and remote working topics together, suggesting how “unnatural” Zoom is and how people should be “teleporting" to meetings instead of “transporting” themselves.

The Other Reason Why Zuck May Have Been On Clubhouse

The competition between social media services is always at an all-time high with each service trying to ensure it keeps up with the features its users want. At times this has led to some services copying features of others and one of the best examples of this is "Stories.” What started as a Snapchat feature has since been replicated on many other social media and networking services, including Facebook. In fact, when it comes to Facebook, the service is well known for replicating features of others or even buying the services outright. Recently, this has even led to FTC questions over whether Facebook acquired Instagram to avoid having to compete with it.

With Clubhouse proving to be the buzzy social media service that it now is, it is not a surprise that Facebook’s Zuckerberg is using it. However, due to the app’s limited reach and the inability for sessions to be replayed later, Clubhouse isn’t exactly the best platform to use when addressing the public or providing information. Therefore, it is possible that Zuck was equally interested in taking a closer look at the finer details of how Clubhouse works, including its benefits and limitations. Whether this means Facebook is likely to launch similar features and functionality in the future remains to be seen, but considering Twitter is already testing a very Clubhouse-like feature with “Spaces,” it is possible Facebook is considering something similar.
