You'd be hard-pressed to find an action movie as insane as John Woo's Face/Off. The premise alone is like a mad joke. An FBI agent (John Travolta) undergoes a procedure to have the face of a terrorist (Nicolas Cage) swapped with his. The plan unsurprisingly goes wrong when the terrorist steals the agent's face to take his identity.

That's just the beginning of the madness as Travolta and Cage give some of their most outrageous performances, going way over-the-top in impersonating each other. The result is a wild, hilarious and solidly entertaining action movie backed with unforgettable one-liners. Here are the best quotes from Face/Off.

"Try terrorism-for-hire. We'll blow some s**t up! It's more fun!"

Nicolas Cage and John Travolta in Face Off

Nicolas Cage really sets the bar high for craziness in this movie with his performance as the villainous Castor Troy. The wildness with which he portrays the character is great fun and Travolta then has the hard task of staying at that level for the rest of the movie.

In an early sequence of the film, Castor Troy comes face-to-face with Travolta's Sean Archer, the man who has made it his mission to hunt him down. Even with a gun in his face, Castor is comfortable enough to joke around and even invite Archer to join him on the dark side.

"Why Couldn't You Just Kill Yourself Or Let It Go?"

As fun as the movie is, it does go to some dark places. It opens with Troy's attempted assassination of Archer, which results in the death of Archer's young son. This spurs Archer on his quest to hunt Troy down at any cost.

Troy is predictably unremorseful for what happened. When Archer confronts him, Troy admits that the death of the boy was an accident, but he thinks Archer has taken it too personally. He simply asks Archer, "Why couldn't you just kill yourself or let it go?" That's the kind of dark humor this film isn't afraid of.

"Take One Godd***n Guess."

Nicolas Cage as Castor Troy in Face Off

One of the eeriest scenes in the movie is seeing Castor Troy wake up from the face-transplant procedure without his face. Though we never get a great look at the gruesome aftermath, the thought of the madman calmly sitting in the doctor's office without a face is disturbing.

After Troy has his goons abduct the doctor responsible for the procedure, they bring the man to Troy. The frightened doctor asks the madman what he wants and Troy responds, "Take one godd**n guess." That's when we know things are about to get crazy.

"Looks Like You're Going To Be In Here For The Next Hundred Years."

Sean Archer's insane plan was to impersonate Troy so he could infiltrate a prison holding Troy's brother and find out the location of a bomb. The plan actually works, but when Troy takes over Archer's identity, he finds himself in a difficult position.

Troy visits him just to mock Archer to his "face." After Troy murdered everyone who knew about the face-swap, Archer finds himself stuck in prison, looking like the man who killed his son. Travolta's childish mocking is great as you can see how much fun he's going to have with this role.

"This Is Turning Into A Real Marriage."

With Troy taking Archer's identity, you can imagine that comes with a lot of crazy implications. The one most concerning to the real Archer is that a murderous madman who looks like him will be living in his house with his family.

Some of the wildest and disturbing scenes show Troy posing as Archer and half-heartedly pretending he belongs in the suburban world. As Archer's wife begins to suspect something is off about her husband, Troy laments that he has found himself in a real untrusting and dishonest marriage.

"I Can Eat A Peach For Hours."

It's probably good that Cage and Travolta switch roles early in the film, as we're not sure we could handle an entire movie of Cage's Castor Troy. He is so over-the-top and mad that it becomes pretty uncomfortable at times. This is especially true of his interactions with women.

As Troy attempts to make his getaway on a private plane, he begins seducing the flight attendant by talking about his love of peaches. The line and Cage's delivery is enough to make your skin crawl, which is likely what he was going for.

"No More Drugs For That Man."

Though Travolta gets to play the wilder of the two characters for most of the movie, that doesn't mean Cage gives a subdued performance. Archer has a very difficult time living with Troy's face as his own and it starts to eat away at his mental state.

Cage gets to have fun with this breakdown, culminating with a sequence when Archer is taken to a safe house run by Troy's people. Surrounded by villains, Archer begins to unravel, causing one of the goons to suggest he take a break from the drugs. Given Cage's performance, it is a perfectly understandable suggestion.

"Plan B, Why Don't We Just Kill Each Other?"

Aside from the fun of seeing the two lead actors portraying each other, the movie also explores how Troy and Archer are such different people. The deception that they both are involved in means they are forced outside of their comfort zones in very different ways.

The two men meet again in the midst of a gunfight. Troy laments his new life and suggests they switchback. When Archer says that there is no way to give back what has been taken from him, Troy suggests a more permanent solution.

"But You're Still Not Having Any Fun!"

John Travolta holding a gun in Face / Off

With both Cage and Travolta in the part, Castor Troy makes for a very fun villain. He is deadly yet playful and doesn't seem to have a lot of regard for his own life. He is a bit like Heath Ledger's Joker in The Dark Knight — just a madman who wants to play a game.

In the climax of the movie, Troy and Archer meet again, ready to finally end things. As they are about to dive into a wild and violent shoot-out, Troy frustratedly points out that even after everything they've gone through, Archer can't find the fun in it.

"It's Like Looking In A Mirror Only… Not."

Faceoff Movie Travolta Cage

Though there are plenty of amazing action scenes, the highlight of the film comes when Archer gets an unexpected visitor in prison. And he's wearing Archer's face!

This scene shows how special this movie is going to be, with Travolta entering as Troy and doing a hilarious and pretty convincing impression of Cage's wild behavior. The moment is sold in his delivery of this ridiculous line. It's at this moment that Face/Off transforms from an action movie with a silly premise, to a surreal experience with two huge stars chewing the scenery.
