Nicolas Cage says that he would reprise his role in Face/Off 2, a potential sequel to the 1997 John Woo action film, and a cult classic. Cage, known for his eclectic and varied body of work, has starred in over 100 films and has developed a following among movie fans for his unique acting style and range of roles. In more recent years, he's opted to star in lower-budget independent films such as JoeMandyColor Out of Space, and Pig, saying it gives him more creative freedom in how he approaches his roles.

Face/Off follows FBI Agent Archer (John Travolta) as he undergoes experimental surgery to switch faces with violent criminal Troy (Cage) to ascertain information on a bomb threat. The film was a hit, grossing over $240 million at the box office, and received positive notices for its action sequences and the performances of Travolta and Cage. Godzilla vs. Kong director Adam Wingard announced he was working on a direct sequel to Face/Off in February 2021.

In a Reddit AMA, when asked if Cage would return for the sequel he responded in a word "Yes." Though it's unclear if Cage has been asked to reprise his role, the fact that Face/Off 2 is a direct sequel leaves the door open for Troy's return, despite his apparent death at the end of the original film. But with the face-swapping surgery shown in the first film, it's completely possible that Troy's face could be grafted onto a new character's body. See the screenshot of the AMA below:

Cage has expressed interest in returning to other roles such as MCU's Ghost Rider, and his latest film, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, suggests some introspection for the veteran performer. Face/Off is considered one of Cage's best films by his fans, given his opportunity to play against type. It remains highly regarded among other box office hits for the actor such as Con Air and The Rock.

Cage is one of the most underrated actors of his generation, but his skill really shines when he gets to do his own thing, unrestricted by studios. As good as Face/Off is, Cage himself has talked about how he wants to be remembered for his more critically acclaimed roles such as his Oscar-winning turn in Leaving Las Vegas. If Face/Off 2 ever comes out, it'll be interesting to see how Wingard chooses to include the actor, if at all, and no matter what, Cage would make the most of the role.
