David Lynch will join the cast of Steven Spielberg's semi-autobiographical movie The FabelmansIn the wake of Spielberg's current film, a remake of the 1961 musical movie West Side Story, which has become a major awards player, Spielberg is currently filming a movie based on stories of his childhood in Arizona. Reuniting with frequent collaborator and writer Tony Kushner, who adapted West Side Story, Spielberg will serve as a co-writer and executive producer of the film, as well as the director.

Now, per Deadline, it has been reported that Lynch has been cast in an undisclosed, "closely guarded" role in The Fabelmans. The Oscar-winning and Emmy-nominated auteur director is best known for his signature surrealist and nightmarish films including Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive, and the television series Twin Peaks. Lynch also directed the first adaptation of Frank Herbert's Dune back in 1984, which was remade recently by Denis Villeneuve. The casting will mark the first collaboration between Lynch and Spielberg.

Lynch joins a cast that includes Michelle Williams, Seth Rogen, and Paul Dano, and multiple up-and-coming young actors including Julia Butters, Oakes Fegley, and Gabriel Bateman. Lynch, like many other directors, has acted many times in his own projects, so it will be exciting to see what his secretive role will be in the coming-of-age film and under the direction of Spielberg. More information on The Fabelmans is soon to come and the movie is planning to release later this year on November 23.
