The trailer for F9 introduces a rocket car, and the idea may have come from Dom's son. The delayed ninth entry in the Fast Saga is promising even more wild escalation in its plot and action compared to past installments. The rocket car, for one, teases a direction that some fans have wanted and predicted the series might go with later entries - to space.

The Fast Saga began back in 2001 with The Fast and The Furious, which presented itself as a fairly straightforward crime film centered around the world of underground drag racing. It introduced characters like Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker), and was a genuine hit. The film spawned a franchise that's lasted to this day, and what's fascinating about the series is that each entry has gotten progressively more ridiculous than the last. What's great is it never feels like too much of a jump from entry to entry, but when comparing the newest movies to the original, there's a wide gap between stealing DVD players and saving the world using wild James Bond-esque sci-fi concepts.

This escalation has allowed for F9 to have a ton of fun with new ideas and action scenarios to place its characters into, which it showed off in its second trailer. The standout one is at the end where Roman (Tyrese Gibson) and Tej (Ludacris) are taken into the upper atmosphere and get to fly what looks to be a rocket car. As amazing and seemingly out of nowhere as that is, the trailer may actually hint at it in its first scene. At the start of the trailer, Dom's son is seen playing with a car and a rocket, and at one point he even places the car inside the toy rocket's open top compartment. This mirrors how Roman and Tej rode the car on top of a high tech plane in order to reach the upper atmosphere before detaching and flying on their own. This could possibly be how the characters themselves might have come up with this idea, thus why emphasis was placed on it in the trailer.

What's also fun about the rocket car showing up in the F9 trailer is that it also serves as a nod to a long running joke/genuine suggestion from fans, that they should eventually go into space. It's a ridiculous idea but also it fits perfectly with the level of escalation between each new movie, and it would also be intriguing if it happened. By experimenting with flying cars and a near space setting, F9 might be building towards a space setting in the tenth Fast Saga film. Even more exciting is that it could already go into space in this entry. It's not shown in the trailer, but that likely could be Roman and Tej's mission, though they probably won't go as far as the moon, which hopefully will be the setting of the next movie.

The notion that the characters might've gotten an idea for a dangerous part of their mission from a child is oddly fitting. What makes the newer Fast Saga movies so much fun is that they have a very creative energy to them, and how they come up with silly and over the top action sequences very much feels like a child playing with toy cars in the best way. F9 promises to continue this escalation, with the rocket car likely only the tip of the iceberg.
