Fast & Furious 9's post-credits scene is just the beginning of delivering true justice for Han, according to director Justin Lin. The filmmaker returns to The Fast Saga after several years, and this time, he's sticking around until its end. Aside from helming the latest installment in the franchise, he will also spearhead both Fast & Furious 10 and 11 which will film back-to-back.
The main story of F9 revolves around the return of Jakob Toretto — the estranged brother of Dom and Mia. While the younger Toretto brother has no issues whatsoever, he's out to settle his grudge with Dom, who banished him years ago after realizing that he had something to do with the racing accident that killed their father. Cipher also factors in the film as she undermines Jakob's operations. But aside from this primary storyline, there's also a lot of excitement about the return of Han, who was deemed dead for a while now, after Deckard Shaw plotted his demise via a car accident in Tokyo.
Ever since it was revealed that the older Shaw was behind the crash that supposedly killed Han, there's a push for him to be accountable for what he did. The online movement called "Justice For Han" finally got a positive development through F9's post-credits scene where the adversaries find themselves face-to-face. In an interview with THR, Lin explains what the stinger means moving forward. Read what Lin said below:
It’s interesting because a lot of people assume when Han comes back in 9, that’s Justice for Han. I never felt like that’s the case. The issue with Justice for Han is not, “Hey, he’s gone, we want him back.” It was that something was not right and we need to figure out how to correct that. For me, the most critical element of this is the treatment of this character. So Justice for Han, really, is how we treat Han as he comes back and as we move forward. There is definitely a lot to explore and to unpack and that is just a moment I wanted to share with the audience — that there’s a lot more to come.
The aforementioned post-credits scene is short; in it, Han knocks on Deckard's door. Upon seeing the man he supposedly killed long ago, the Shaw brother was obviously shocked. Han, on the other hand, doesn't seem like he's interested in catching his murderer up on how he survived his attempted assassination. This effectively confirms that somehow, Deckard will factor in Fast & Furious 10 as it's difficult not to address this meeting given how eager fans are to learn more about it. As Kang said, the chances of his character just engaging Deckard in a fistfight are slim to none, so it's going to be more interesting than that.
Lin has been vocal about his intentions about fully delivering on the justice that many fans continue to demand for what happened to Han in The Fast Saga. However, this particular plot point isn't going to be any film's main narrative. So, understandably, it would take a few films to properly address it. The post-credits scene of Fast & Furious 9 is a promising first step as it sends a clear message that eventually, this will be tackled.
