Fans have been patiently waiting for F9, the latest installment of the Fast and Furious movies, to hit theaters. But like most movies recently, numerous delays have made that wait much longer than expected. Thankfully, fans got a nice taste of what was to come with the latest trailer to be released.

As expected, the trailer is a wild ride with a peek at some of the insane stunts that will be featured in the movie. It gave a glimpse at some of the most exciting aspects of the movie, like the return of Han, John Cena's new villain, and a possible space mission. Needless to say, fans are already pouring over the footage to come up with their own theories about the movie and where the franchise will go next.

The Big Bad

Charlize Theron as Cipher in a flight simulator in F9

There have been some notable villains in the Fast and Furious franchise before, but Cipher seems to be set up as the most significant threat Dom and the others have faced. After appearing in The Fate and the Furious, she will be returning in this latest installment to cause some more trouble.

It has been suggested that this movie might tie together the spin-off series Hobbs and Shaw by revealing that Cipher was actually the mysterious big bad villain in that movie. That would help to bring the entire cinematic universe together for the final movies.

Gisele Is Alive

Anyone who is taking these movies seriously at this point has only themselves to blame as they are basically action-packed soap operas. One prime example of this is the fact that no character can ever really stay dead, with multiple people having returned from their apparent graves.

One big name that exited the franchise was Gisele, played by a pre-Wonder Woma Gal Gadot. Though Gadot's star has risen considerably, given the fact that Han returns in this movie, many fans are guessing Gisele might just come back as well to give these characters a happy ending together.

Shaw Will Appear

Deckard Shaaw behind the wheel of a car in Fate of the Furious

Deckard Shaw was another memorable villain who eventually became an ally to the family over time. He later reluctantly teamed up with Hobbs to form a badass duo who went off on their own adventures.

The appearance of Helen Mirren, who plays Shaw's criminal mastermind mother, leads some fans to wonder if Shaw will appear in the movie as well. Not only would it make sense for him to show up alongside his mother, but it would give the opportunity to tie up the loose ends between Shaw and Han.

Hobbs Will Return

Dwayne Johnson as Luke Hobbs in prison

A big turning point in the franchise was when Dwayne Johnson joined the cast in Fast Five as Lucas Hobbs. He made for a formidable adversary for Dom before joining him as one of the leads of the series. Unfortunately, a feud between Johnson and Vin Diesel led to them refusing to work together.

However, it has been reported that the two beefy stars have since buried the hatchet just in time for the franchise to come to a close. While fans think Hobbs will be absent from this movie, it is rumored that it will set up the return of Hobbs in the final chapters of the series.

Tokyo Drift Will Play A Big Role

Fast and Furious 9 Tokyo Drift Characters

The series does a pretty solid job of tying together threads from throughout the series. This also includes the franchise's less-popular entry Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift. With a new group of characters as the leads, fans largely ignored this third movie, even though it did introduce the character of Han.

With Han's return, it is rumored that Tokyo Drift will play a much larger role in this story than it has before. The trailer even shows a glimpse at several of the characters from that movie returning, which is fitting as they were Han's new family.

Han Switched Sides

Sung Kang as Han in F9

The return of Han was something that fans have been campaigning for with the call of "Justice for Han". After seemingly being killed by Deckard Shaw, it felt like Shaw was quickly forgiven and Han's death seemed to be forgotten.

However, his return in this movie might be more complicated than it seems. Some fans think Han might have heard about Dom and the others teaming up with Shaw and is not too happy about it. The theory suggests Han is actually working with Cipher, who is promising him revenge on the man who almost killed him.

Brian's Story Will Be Included

Brian and Dom say goodbye

The death of Paul Walker was still a devastating blow to the franchise as his character of Brian was with the series from the very beginning. Most fans agree that Furious 7 gave an appropriately bittersweet farewell to Walker and the character.

However, with the return of Bian's wife Mia, some fans think Brian himself will make some sort of appearance. It has been said that Walker's own brothers stood in for him during reshoots of Furious 7. With the franchise coming to a close, it would make sense for there to be some sort of acknowledgment of Brian before it ends.

Dom's Parents

Dom and Jakob having a stand-off in F9.

In another bit of soap opera storytelling, this movie will introduce the character of Jakob, Dom's previously unmentioned brother who will be played by John Cena. The new trailer further explores the bad blood between these two brothers as they go toe-to-toe.

With Dom's brother randomly popping up, some fans think that the movie could explore the Toretto family tree even further with an appearance from Dom's parents. Dom remembers his father fondly and witnesses his death during a car race. But of course, that doesn't mean he's really dead. At the very least, Dom's mother could make an appearance.

Ends On A Cliffhanger

It has been confirmed that this long-running series will finally come to a close with the tenth and eleventh movies, which will reportedly be filmed back-to-back. While those two movies will most certainly be one big story, there are some that think F9 will set up the epic two-part finale.

The theory suggests that the events of this movie will tie directly into the final two chapters and set up where the franchise is heading next. This could mean this movie will be ending on a cliffhanger to keep fans guessing.

They're Going To Space

While the series started off as a fairly straightforward Point Break ripoff, it has since grown into one of the wildest action franchises that keeps attempting to outdo itself with its action sequences. But with all the insanity that these movies have attempted, there seems like only one obvious place to go from here.

For a while now, fans have been somewhat jokingly suggested the franchise needs to go into space. As it turns out, the filmmakers are not opposed to the idea and the end of the latest trailer seems to suggest that is exactly what is going to happen in F9.
