Extraction 2 star Chris Hemsworth details the sequel's elaborate, one-take fight sequence, which is even wilder than the one in the first movie. Released on Netflix in 2020 to generally positive reviews, the first Extraction sees Hemsworth take on the role of mercenary Tyler Rake. The action-packed movie was directed by former stuntman Sam Hargrave and features a variety of impressive action moments, including a 12-minute sequence designed to look as if it is one continuous take. Although it appeared that he died in the first movie, Rake returns for Extraction 2, which will take the character to a more snowy locale this time around. Little is known about the plot of the movie just yet, but it's expected to release on Netflix at some point next year.

In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz as part of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Hemsworth shares what audiences can expect from Extraction 2, including the film's very ambitious "oner." Although he doesn't divulge any specific story details, the star teases that the one-take sequence will feature some impressive (and dangerous) vehicle choreography involving a fast-moving train and a helicopter. Check out Hemsworth's full comment below:

We have an even longer oner sequence in the film. We had a helicopter, a moving train going 40 clicks or whatever and the helicopter landing on the train, six guys coming out, climbing down the cart into a fight with me. I go up on the top, grab a gun. I’m shooting the helicopter that’s now flying backwards in front of the train going at full speed. It was wild. Then we had 300 extras in a sort of Old Boy-style sequence choreographed fight. It was wild. This film is next level.

Extraction 2's Bigger Action Scenes Can Make The Sequel Better

The first Extraction featured a relatively straightforward story with the action really being the main draw. Like with Chad Stahelski and the John Wick franchise, Hargrave's stunt background resulted in a movie with coherent, thrilling, and violent action sequences, with the oner being a particular highlight. It may not be clear what the actual story is, but Extraction 2 putting an emphasis on creating bigger and more elaborate fight scenes will mean audiences will get more of what they loved from the first movie.

A behind-the-scenes trailer for the sequel has already teased some of what's to come, including the train sequence and seemingly the Old Boy-style fight that Hemsworth also references. Old Boy famously features one long corridor fight sequence involving a hammer, and the trailer for Extraction 2 suggests Hargrave's homage to the iconic scene may take place with a prison riot as the backdrop. Outside those two action scenes, the trailer has teased that Rake will be participating in a number of smaller skirmishes and vehicle chases in Extraction 2 as well, which will hopefully up the ante from the first film in some exciting ways.

After the success of the first John Wick, John Wick: Chapter 2 went bigger and bolder with its fight scenes, but John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum put a focus on more intimate and intricate fights, with just going bigger eventually delivering diminishing returns. So far, the Extraction franchise seems to be following a similar trajectory, meaning audiences can probably expect a much higher body count and more bombastic action sequences in the sequel. It remains to be seen if Extraction 3 will get the green light, but Extraction 2 is already shaping up to be even better than the first movie.
