Chris Hemsworth returns as Black Ops mercenary Tyler Rake to lead the Extraction 2 cast. As he takes up a new mission nine months after being presumed dead, Rake must infiltrate one of the deadliest prisons in the world to rescue a Georgian gangster’s family. Like its predecessor, Extraction 2 is filled with hand-to-hand combat and situations of extreme survival. While stuntman and Extraction filmmaker, Sam Hargrave, resumes his directorial duties for the sequel, frequent collaborator Joe Russo pens the screenplay. The action-thriller is based on the graphic novel Ciudad, and is a joint effort between the screenwriter, his brother, Anthony Russo, Ande Parks, Fernando León González, and Eric Skillman.

Bringing back the franchise's creative stunt choreography and one-shot long takes, Extraction 2 is another feather in the cap for leading man Chris Hemsworth. The 2023 thriller offered the Australian actor another chance to prove his credentials as an action star, uniting him with returning cast member Golshifteh Farahani and many new additions to the franchise. Given its action-heavy premise, the Extraction 2 cast also includes a few action genre veterans, including prominent stunt artists as well as some up-and-coming talent, and it even reunites Hemsworth with a fellow MCU alumni.

Chris Hemsworth As Tyler Rake

Once a member of Australia’s special forces unit Special Air Service Regiment, Tyler Rake turned into a Black Ops mercenary capable of rescuing high-profile targets all over the world. The original movie’s divisive ending left his fate to be open-ended but Extraction 2 establishes that Tyler is very much alive, all set for a new mission. Even though he accepts assignments from gangsters, Tyler has a morally righteous conscience (as is evident from his unwavering attitude toward helping innocent civilians). Tyler’s past is kept ominous throughout the franchise but his brief moments of meditative peace show that his violent history bears a toll on his mental state.

The protagonist is played by Chris Hemsworth, whose breakout role was the short-tempered yet strong-willed Norse god, Thor Odinson, in several Marvel Cinematic Universe properties. The Australian actor also earned rave reviews for portraying the brash and self-confident Formula One driver James Hunt in Rush (which is often considered Hemsworth’s best non-Marvel movie). Horror fans also remember Hemsworth as the college jock Curt Vaughan in The Cabin in the Woods. He has had run-ins with other genres like fantasy (portraying the valiant huntsman Eric in the Snow White and the Huntsman franchise) and sci-fi (a brief yet memorable appearance as James T. Kirk’s father George Kirk in Star Trek).

Golshifteh Farahani As Nik Khan

Golshifteh Farahani joins the Extraction 2 cast as Rake’s fellow mercenary and close confidant Nik Khan. Talking to Netflix, Farahani broke down her character as being similar to Tyler in the sense that “they both have an ocean of pain that they swim in, but it’s a pain they’re trying to process”. The Iranian-French actor is known for playing the aspiring country musician and loving wife Laura in Paterson. The empathy evoked in Farahani’s Extraction character can be seen in her portrayal of the caring nurse Aisha in Body of Lies while Nik’s courage is also reminiscent of Farhani playing the anti-extremist revolutionary Bahar in Girls of the Sun.

Adam Bessa As Yaz Khan

Nik Khan isn’t the only recurring character in the Extraction 2 cast, as her mercenary brother, Yaz Khan, returns to aid Tyler. Proficient with firepower and running underground organizations, Yaz isn’t as melancholic as his sister and enjoys his life with his high earnings. The character is played by Adam Bessa, who is known for playing the vengeance-seeking Kurdish police officer Kawa in Mosul and the passionate activist Abbas Naziri in Hanna. For his performance in the Arabic drama Harka as a Tunisian man named Ali (who is desperate to get out of abject poverty), Bessa won the Un Certain Regard Award for Best Performance at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.

Tornike Gogrichiani As Zurab

Ruthless Georgian gangster, Zurab, is integral to the Extraction 2 story as he serves as the main villain. Not being too communicative of his feelings since childhood, Zurab channels his emotions through his aggressive demeanor. Zurab wants revenge on Tyler for killing his younger brother. Tornike Gogrichiani feels that the actor's inner demons make him “a tragic character”, as he told Netflix. Gogrichiani is a Georgian actor, who is known for playing the mysterious murder-accused Andrej in the Georgian-language thriller A Fold in My Blanket and fearless investigative journalist David Kipiani in the crime series Sniffer. He also led the Georgian family drama Artificial Breathing in which he played a widowed paramedic.

Daniel Bernhardt As Konstantine

Martial artist Daniel Bernhardt joins the Extraction 2 cast as Konstantine, one of Zurab’s close associates who indulges in some intense fights against Rake. Konstantine’s impressive fighting styles in Extraction 2 bear testimony to the stunt-heavy career of the actor playing him. The Karate and Taekwondo practitioner made his debut as art thief-turned-fighter Alex Cardo in Bloodsport II: The Next Kumite (reprising his role in Bloodsport III) and went on to play characters proficient in hand-to-hand combat like Agent Johnson in The Matrix Reloaded and ruthless Russian hitman Kirill in John Wick. He also had brief roles fighting against Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde and Hugh Jackman in Logan.

Tinatin Dalakishvili As Ketevan

The target of Rake’s latest mission, Ketevan is the daughter of a notorious Georgian gangster. Rather than playing a stereotypical damsel in distress, Ketevan is brave on her own accord as she attempts to flee from the prison where she is held hostage, with her weapon of choice being the head of a spade. The character is played by Georgian actor Tinatin Dalakishvili, who after gaining fame in Georgia, reached international audiences with credits like the steampunk fantasy film Abigail (in which Dalakishvili played the titular protagonist, an inquisitive girl with magical powers). She also joined the cast of near-future thriller The Undeclared War, playing a fierce and radical journalist.

Extraction 2 Supporting Cast & Characters

Olga Kurylenko as Mia - Olga Kurylenko features in Extraction 2 as Mia, one of Tyler’s allies. The Ukrainian-French actor is no stranger to the action genre having played Nika Boronina in Hitman and Camille Montes in the James Bond film Quantum of Solace. Like fellow Extraction 2 cast member Daniel Bernhardt, Kurylenko has also appeared in The Matrix Reloaded and Atomic Blonde.

Andro Jafaridze as Sandro - Sandro is one of the young Georgians who are held hostage by Zurab and are to be rescued by Tyler. Newcomer Andro Jafaridze plays Sandro with his only previous screen credit being a short film also called Andro.

Miriam and Marta Kovziashvili as Nina - While Ketevan is the primary target of Tyler’s extraction, Tyler must also rescue several children, including the naive Nina. The character is played by twin sisters Miriam and Marta Kovziashvili, who made their film debut with Extraction 2.

Levan Saginashvili as Vakhtang - Vakhtang is one of Zurab’s strongest henchmen who give Tyler a tough time in combat. The Extraction 2 cast includes many Georgian actors but in the case of Vakhtang, he’s being played by a professional arm-wrestler from the country. Nicknamed the Georgian Hulk, Levan Saginashvili previously appeared in the fantasy film The Lady of Heaven as the warrior Talha the Ram.

George Lasha as Sergo - Zurab’s crew of his most trusted associates is complete with Sergo who is played by George Lasha. Apart from Extraction 2, the Georgian was credited as Businessman on the James Bond film Spectre and also had roles The Royals, FBI: International and the Indian biopic Rocketry: The Nambi Effect.

Idris Elba as The Man in the Suit - The Man in the Suit is a mysterious authoritative figure who gives Tyler the job at the beginning of Extraction 2, and he bookends the movie by appearing at the end. Elba starred alongside Hemsworth in the Thor movies, playing Heimdall, and he's starred in other huge Hollywood movies, including playing Bloodsport in The Suicide Squad and playing Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Elba will likely have a bigger role in Extraction 3, as The Man in the Suit hints that who he works for is an important figure in the series, but he doesn't reveal anything more than that.
