Randy Couture talks about working with his new The Expendables 4 co-stars Megan Fox, 50 Cent and Andy Garcia. The Expendables franchise kicked off in 2010 with Sylvester Stallone heading up a cast filled with action movie icons. The sequels Expendables 2 and Expendables 3 followed in 2012 and 2014 respectively.

Now it’s been almost ten years since Expendables 3 and the franchise is finally ready to return to screens. Coming back from previous movies in the series are Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren and the aforementioned Couture. Joining these Expendables veterans as first-time franchise members in Expendables 4 are Fox, 50 Cent aka Curtis Jackson and Garcia. The movie’s cast also includes Iko Uwais, Tony Jaa, Sheila Shah, Eddie Hall, Jacob Scipio and Levy Tran. Scott Waugh makes his Expendables debut as director, working from a script by Spenser Cohen and Max Adams.

Interviewed recently by uInterview, long-time series star Couture had a chance to talk about working with some of the new additions to the Expendables 4 cast. In particular, Couture singled out Fox, 50 Cent and Garcia as new blood who are livening up the proceedings in the long-awaited action sequel. Couture said:

Obviously there's only four old Expendables characters left, and that's me and Dolph [Lundgren] and [Jason] Statham and [Sylvester] Stallone. So we added a whole new influx of new people. 50 Cent who I've worked with before and have a lot of respect for. Megan Fox which, was nice to meet somebody new. Andy Garcia who I've been a big fan of forever and has done some amazing work in the film industry. So it was really fun to get to see him work and be around him.

Fox of course comes with plenty of her own action-movie history, having starred in the Transformers series as well as Jonah Hex and a pair of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies. 50 Cent meanwhile has crossed over from being a rap icon to roles in movies like Escape Plan, which originally teamed him with Stallone, and Den of Thieves as well as 2011's Setup, which first paired him with Couture. And Garcia obviously has had a long and distinguished acting career, including roles in action films like 8 Million Ways to Die, Black Rain, Desperate Measures, Smokin’ Aces and others, alongside roles in somewhat more prestigious films like The Godfather Part III, The Untouchables and Ocean’s Eleven.

Adding new blood is of course necessary if The Expendables series is going to continue on. But the primary hook for action movie fans obviously remains the presence of veteran stars like Stallone, Lundgren and Statham, and to a lesser extent Couture. Of course it’s anticipated that The Expendables 4 will represent something of a change for the series, as Stallone’s Barney Ross seems ready to depart, possibly handing off leadership reins to Statham’s Lee Christmas for future films. It remains to be seen exactly what’s in store for the Expendables gang in the series’ highly-anticipated fourth entry, but there’s no question it will be fun to witness what new stars Fox, 50 Cent and Garcia add to the mix alongside the series’ four remaining mainstays.
