'Expendables 2': Chuck Norris Set Photo & Antonio Banderas

If the previously-released photo of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, and Sylvester Stallone on the set of The Expendables 2 wasn't macho enough for you - today, we've got a new one that includes Terry Crews, Dolph Lundgren, and the "manliest man" alive: Chuck Norris.

There's also been confirmation from one aging action star - namely, Antonio Banderas - that he was unable to accept an invitation from Stallone to appear in the Expendables sequel. Whether he would be willing to appear in any potential future installments, on the other hand...

Willis' claim that Stallone was "going for all the marbles this time" by getting as many tough guy movie icons over the age of 40 (or so) in Expendables 2 turned out to be more than true. Now that principal photography on the "old-school" action throwback sequel is getting going overseas in Bulgaria, it seems the film's acting lineup is all set - including returning stars like Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Willis, Crews, Lundgren, Jason Statham, Jet Li, and Randy Couture (but no Mickey Rourke), along with franchise newbies Norris, Scott Adkins, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and (young) Liam Hemsworth.

Many a fan was disappointed when Norris - who last appeared onscreen in The Cutter (2005)  - didn't show up in the first Expendables flick. So the addition of the now 71-year-old Walker, Texas Ranger star is definitely being welcomed by those who are hopeful that Expendables 2 (unlike its predecessor) will be the true, unadulterated homage to marvelously cheesy cinematic testosterone fests from the '80s and '90s.

Check out Crews, Norris, Lundgren, and part of the Expendables 2 production team - looking (what else) tough and ready for action - in the set photo below:

While the cast of Expendables 2 has more than plenty of beefy badasses to spare, it would've been appropriate for someone like Banderas - star of movies like Desperado, Assassins, The Mask of Zorro, The 13th Warrior, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, and more - to have also shown up. However, as the Spanish star mentioned to Worst Previews recently, it simply wasn't to be:

"They asked me to do ['Expendables 2'], I don't think at this point I will have the time. I am very disappointed that it didn't work out. [As for 'Expendables 3']... you never know I will have to talk to Sly."

Whether or not a third Expendables is destined to happen is another matter. However, between the "big and bad" cast, experienced action helmer Simon West taking over directorial duties from Stallone, and a screenplay penned by the odd couple of newcomer David Agosto and Ken Kaufman (Muppets from Space, Space Cowboys, The Missing)... it'll be interesting to see just how Expendables 2 turns out - both in terms of quality and box office returns.

The Expendables 2 will hit theaters around the U.S. on August 17th, 2012.
