The Expanse season 5 will air its episodes weekly, with the first set to premiere in December on Amazon Prime. Created by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, The Expanse is based on James S.A. Corey's eponymous novel series. The show follows an unlikely group of anti-heroes - UN Deputy Undersecretary Chrisjen Avasarala (Shohreh Aghdashloo), Rocinante officer James Holden (Steven Strait), and his crew - as they travel across a human-colonized solar system in the near future, unknowingly stumbling upon a ploy that threatens the peace and order of the galaxies.

The Expanse, having aired its first three seasons on Syfy, was saved by Amazon Prime in May 2018 after the original network canceled the series. The streamer picked up the show for a fourth and fifth season. Recently, during The Expanse's virtual New York Comic-Con panel, Amazon Prime dropped the official trailer for The Expanse season 5, confirming its release date.  The trailer revealed that the first three episodes of The Expanse season 5 will premiere on December 16, 2020, while subsequent episodes will air weekly. There is another development for Amazon Prime subscribers, as The Expanse has unveiled the full release schedule for season 5.

The Expanse rolled out the complete schedule for its latest iteration. As confirmed previously, the show will drop the first three episodes will arrive on December 16, 2020. New episodes will then subsequently be available to stream every Wednesday. As apparent by the comprehensive release calendar, season 5 will strictly adhere to its weekly regimen, and the supply of new episodes will not be interrupted during the h0liday season. The Expanse season 5 will run through early 2021, with the final episode 10, "Nemesis Games,"  releasing on February 3, 2021.  Check out the full schedule for The Expanse season 5 below.

The show's release schedule has been applauded by The Expanse Writers, who found it very "fetch." Also, quite amusingly, the series fans aren't disgruntled with the schedule either. One Twitter user, Aaron Hall, even noted that the timetable builds up the deserved anticipation for The Expanse's new season. Hall explained that with episodes releasing weekly, there would be more conversations about the show, which will keep viewers excited about what is to come next. As revealed previously, several humans seeking better lives beyond the alien ring will abandon the system in The Expanse season 5. Meanwhile, the system will be threatened by a potential calamity, brought about by centuries of exploitation of the belt. The Rocinante crew, the Inner Planets leaders, and the Belt will also face unanticipated personal challenges.

As Amazon subscribers would know, The Expanse season 5 isn't the first show on the streamer to air weekly episodes. Amazon had also timetabled The Boys season 2 similarly, prompting a backlash from fans who demanded all episodes to be released at once. But as is clear from the looming popularity of The Boys season 2, even after a month of its premiere, the weekly schedule helped the show to remain in the headlines organically. The Boys' release schedule was defended by its creators and stars, and their insight proved worthwhile for the show. With The Expanse following The Boys' footsteps, it will too benefit popularity and viewership-wise. And not all of its spoilers will be on the table at any given point. But viewers will need to understand the motivation behind The Expanse's schedule and not review bomb the show despite its high caliber.
