A new poster for season 2 of The Exorcist teases the continuation of FOX's hit series. After a parade of sequels that almost all paled in comparison to the classic 1973 original - 1990's The Exorcist III has amassed a fairly sizable cult audience - one could be forgiven for assuming that franchise would never again earn critical and audience acclaim, never thinking The Exorcist would go on to find a new life on TV.

While not a direct adaptation of the classic film or the William Peter Blatty novel that inspired it, FOX's The Exorcist series successfully managed to capture the chilling atmosphere that the property is known for while also succeeding to introduce younger viewers to a franchise they might not have known otherwise. Despite low ratings, The Exorcist's loyal fanbase was evidently enough to earn the series a second lease on life, with FOX shirking its trigger happy reputation for cutting fan favorite shows and picking up season 2 right near the end of the 2016-2017 broadcast season.

As The Exorcist's season 2 premiere draws ever closer, Deadline has obtained the first poster for the new season, which will be available for fans to get signed by the cast and crew of the series at San Diego Comic-Con this week. Check out the poster below. Additionally, Deadline also reports that Zuleikha Robinson (The Following) has joined the regular cast of The Exorcist for season 2.

The above poster seems clearly designed to recall the classic poster for The Exorcist film, which featured Father Merrin (Max Von Sydow) walking toward the home of possessed little girl Regan MacNeil. This time out though, two priests are featured, those being Father Tomas Ortega (Alfonso Herrera), and Father Marcus Keane (Ben Daniels) from the first season of the show. The ominous tagline "Evil has a new home" only furthers the parallel, showing that the series intends to wisely stick to its roots.

As for the addition of Robinson, she'll play Mouse, "a mysterious figure waging her own private war against the Catholic patriarchy." In addition to playing Kevin Bacon's season 3 love interest on FOX's aforementioned The Following, Robinson also had memorable stints on The Lone Gunmen, Lost, and Homeland. Robinson joins other recent cast additions John Cho (Star Trek) and Brianna Hildebrand (Deadpool). It remains to be seen whether she will serve to help or hinder the new mission of leads Ortega and Keane.

The Exorcist season 2 possesses FOX on September 29.
