Things get positively muddy in an exclusive clip from Top Gear season 27, episode 4 on BBC America. The new season of the long-running car show is moving along at a decent clip, as the new hosts, Paddy McGuinness and Freddie Flintoff, along with returning presenter and resident car expert Chris Harris, continue to gel and deliver the kind of celebration of camaraderie (with some gentle, mostly good-natured teasing) the show has come to be known for. As such, the new season has been as much about the presenters getting to know one another, mainly with the help of some spectacular drives in some not-always-spectacular cars.

The season 27 premiere took the getting-to-know-you phase of introducing new hosts seriously, compelling McGuinness, Flintoff, and Harris to nab cars that were as close to the one’s they first bought for themselves as possible, before sending them off on a road trip through Ethiopia. Since, then, the series has tasked the hosts with building budget EV cars, and even turning a hearse into “the ultimate family car.” While Top Gear may have had a revolving door of presenters in the past few years, it certainly hasn’t lost its unique sense of humor.

But in the season’s penultimate episode, McGuinness and Flintoff are off to Borneo to tour rare but cheap cars across the world’s third-largest island. And as the exclusive clip makes clear, that trip is not without its environmental challenges. In this case the hosts find themselves in deep mud, while only one of them seemingly has the car to handle the less-than-optimal conditions. Check out the exclusive clip from Top Gear season 27, episode 4 below:

The episode is very much in the spirit of the series, as it gives only a passing glimpse of what life is like in Borneo, in favor of watching some tourists (Harris is apparently not along for the ride this week) take in the sights via their cars. Whether or not McGuinness and Flintoff are actually engaged in a “challenge” isn’t exactly clear, but then again, it doesn’t really matter. The conditions on the roads are challenge enough for McGuinness’s Matra Bagheera, while Flintoff’s Austin Allegro seems to handle the mud just find.

Again, though, it’s not the cars, but the people driving them that’s really of interest here. McGuinness and Flintoff seem to be having a decent time (who wouldn’t) on their road trip, with the latter opting to leave his companion in the dust — or, in this case, mud — after he experiences some technical difficulties. Normally, that sort of thing would involve some cackling and maybe some good-natured banter, so maybe that’s just around the corner.
