Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters debuted on Netflix today, and we’ve got an exclusive first look at the action figures for the series. Loosely inspired by Hasbro’s classic Stretch Armstrong action figures, Stretch Armstrong and the Flex fighters is a new animated superhero show, set in a place called Charter City. Developed by the team of Kevin Burke (Avengers Assemble), Victor Cook (The Spectacular Spider-Man), and Chris Wyatt (Iron Man: Armored Adventures), Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters is but the latest addition to Netflix’s ever-growing line-up of original series.
Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters centers on a trio of high school students who develop superhuman abilities after being exposed to experimental chemicals. The title character is Jake “Stretch” Armstrong (Scott Menville), who finds it hard to balance superheroics with being a teenager. His two teammates are also his two best friends. The first is Nathan “Wingspan” Park (The Walking Dead’s Steven Yeun), who gains the ability to grow and retract wings. The second is Ricardo “Omni-Mass” Perez (Ogie Banks), who gains the ability to change his size.
To coincide with Netflix’s series, a new line of Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters action figures is also debuting, and is being sold exclusively at Wal-Mart in the U.S. and Canada. Called the Flex Power line, the core of the set is figures based on the show’s three heroes – as well as three dastardly villains – all equipped with “Flex Power” technology that allows them to be bent and stretched like a rubber band. This can be used to launch various weapons. There are also Flex Power vehicles, two of which are motorcycle-like, with the other being the large Flex Power Mobile HQ. Check out the full assortment in the gallery below.
The main Flex Power Heroes figures carry an SRP of $7.99 each, while Stretch’s “Flexcycle” and Omni-Mass’ “Smashcycle” carry an SRP of $14.99. The Flex Power Mobile HQ carries a larger SRP of $29.99. Weapons bags – a.k.a. Flex Flingers – cost $2.99. There is also an 11″ talking Stretch Armstrong figure, and the pitch of his voice changes the more he’s stretched and manipulated.
The first 13 episodes of Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters’ 26-episode debut season are now available to stream on Netflix. A release date for the second half of season 1 has yet to be revealed. A tie-in comic book based on the series will debut in January 2018, from IDW Publishing.
