A preview for the graphic novel 5 Worlds: The Emerald Gate has released, teasing the kids’ last adventure as they come to Grimbo. The water world is set to be the most unpredictable and dangerous place they’ve beem, with creative director Mark Siegel teasing what's to come in the story's final entry:

"Each of the worlds has a very distinct vibe, a different atmosphere, different cultures, ecologies—and challenges for our heroes. Oona's whole journey culminates in the green, untamed world of Grimbo (E). We're in an ocean world, carpeted over by a deadly, predatory moss. It's a world full of secrets and ancient mysteries. It's also a place of strange dreams and visions, and it tests all who set foot on it to their limits.”

As seen in the preview, the ocean atmosphere quickly overwhelms the child heroes. With the trio getting closer than ever to saving the Five Worlds, their last quest is proving to be a real challenge. Unlike other worlds they had visited, Grimbo could be too much for them to save the Five Worlds in the way they had originally planned. Previously, Publishers Weekly reviewed The Emerald Gate with a positive review, saying, “A dazzling interplanetary fantasy… that will easily appeal to fans of Naruto or Avatar: The Last Airbender.”

The Siegels’ climatic conclusion is shaping up to be an exciting sendoff of the series. Oona, Jax, and An are finding themselves in a different place than when they started, utilizing magic and teamwork. 5 Worlds: The Emerald Gate is set to release on Tuesday, January 18, with hardback for 20.99 and paperback for 19.99, with digital listed at 8.99.
