Evil Dead: The Game developer Saber Interactive has revealed that DLC for the game will be released post-launch, starting with content based on the third film in the series, Army of Darkness. The multiplayer co-op title pits a team of survivors from the Evil Dead films and the Ash vs Evil Dead TV series against an unending Deadite horde led by a Kandarian Demon, which can either be controlled by AI or another player. The base game features two large maps - Remington Rapids and Cleaver County. No two rounds will play out the exact same way, and with the promise of more content to come, Evil Dead: The Game should be highly replayable.

Saber Interactive's new Evil Dead title is the first to arrive on consoles since 2005's Evil Dead: Regeneration. Evil Dead: The Game has a single-player mode, but its main focus is on multiplayer and co-op, blending the approach of horror games Dead by Daylight and Left 4 Dead. Players can take control of multiple versions of franchise protagonist Ash Williams (with Bruce Campbell reprising his role) as well as other characters from the Evil Dead series. Said characters are split into four different classes: leader, warrior, hunter, and support. The Kandarian Demon, meanwhile, can choose from three different archetypes: Necromancer, Puppeteer, and Warlord.

In terms of potential DLC for Evil Dead: The Game, there's a lot of inspiration for Saber Interactive to pull from. While more maps are obvious, with potential for new locations inspired by both the films and the Ash vs Evil Dead series a possibility, there's also the prospect of there being more playable characters. The Evil Dead franchise doesn't feature an endless roster of characters to play as like Star Wars, but there are some figures from the films who'd feel right at home in the new game. Jake from Evil Dead 2 is one such character, and it's even possible that Saber could look to the 2013 Evil Dead reboot when it comes to new Survivor characters too, namely Mia Allen.

All Confirmed DLC Packs Coming To Evil Dead: The Game

Evil Dead Army of Darkness DLC

So far, Saber Interactive has confirmed that four DLC packs will be coming to Evil Dead: The Game, having revealed before launch that the studio is working on "multiple groovy updates". The first piece of content due to release is a new map based on Castle Kandar from Army of Darkness, which will be free to all players who own a copy of the game. Players who pre-ordered the deluxe, collector, or ultimate edition of Evil Dead: The Game also have access to Season Pass 1, which will include the aforementioned four DLC packs. There's no word on what those packs will include, but the prospect of further characters, maps, and possibly weapons could prove to be welcome additions when they arrive.

The Evil Dead game features plenty of Kandarian Demon-based butt-kicking, but it doesn't have as large an amount of content at launch compared to other releases, retailing at $39.99 as opposed to the $60.00-$70.00 range usually reserved for AAA titles. However, there's still plenty of stuff to do in the game, and with DLC on the horizon, the experience should be expanded even further. The two maps included in the launch version of Evil Dead: The Game already provide plenty of areas for Ash and co. to slay Deadites, so it'll be interesting to see how further content adds to its dynamic.
