Director Lee Cronin shares a gruesome Evil Dead Rise BTS image. Sam Raimi kicked off his lucrative Evil Dead franchise with a feature film in 1981. The movie wasn't a huge blockbuster, but it quickly became a cult phenomenon spawning two sequels Evil Dead II (1987) and Army of Darkness (1992). After the films, there wasn't a new movie until Fede Alvarez rebooted the franchise in 2013, giving it a darker spin and expanding the universe. After Alvarez's film, there wasn't another cinematic installment, although a TV show, Ash Vs. Evil Dead, starring Bruce Campbell, was released in 2015, which ran through 2018. After the series ended, it initially looked as if the sun had set on Evil Dead, but that turned out to be untrue as the upcoming film Evil Dead Rise is continuing the franchise.

Trading off its cabin-in-woods horror for a more urban setting, Evil Dead Rise is being helmed by Cronin, who producers Campbell and Raimi handpicked. The new movie narrates the tale of two sisters played by Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan, whose reunion is interrupted by certain wicked entities. Initially, Evil Dead Rise was expected to begin production last year, but as with so many other projects, it couldn't start production in New Zealand until June 2021 due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. In July, it was reported that Evil Dead Rise was already halfway through filming, and now the director has shared a new gory BTS shot that will certainly hype fans up for the film.

Evil Dead Rise director Cronin recently posted a picture from the set of the movie to Twitter, offering a look at its gruesomely blood-spattered setting. There aren't any characters in the shot, but given the amount of blood on the floor, one could safely say the image is from a viciously carnage-filled sequence in the movie. Take a look at Cronin's tweet below.

Although the image doesn't reveal much about the story of Evil Dead Rise, it, at least, confirms that the movie retains the no-holds-barred cruor of the franchise Raimi started 40 years ago. Of course, Evil Dead Rise would feel decidedly different from the earlier movies, as Raimi is no longer at the helm, in part due to his commitment to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Campbell has also hung up Ashley Joanna "Ash" Williams chainsaw. But that shouldn't discourage horror buffs as the franchise's new generation of stars, including Gabrielle Echols, Morgan Davies, and Nell Fisher, are all doing their best to fill the blood-soaked shoes of the veterans.

With Campbell's Ash gone, fans' apprehensions about Evil Dead Rise are understandable. But as Cronin's new image suggests, the movie isn't charting any new grounds without ensuring that the franchise's ultraviolence remains intact. So those worried that the movie wouldn't live up to the precedent set by the franchise's original installments shouldn't worry too much. After all, this is only the first look at the movie, and it has already blown up the internet. Hopefully, more glimpses at Evil Dead Rise will be unveiled in subsequent months, giving fans a clearer picture of what the movie is going to look like.
