Starfield, Bethesda's upcoming open-world space RPG, is set to bring players into the multi-faceted world of space exploration, and several factions were recently teased in a series of videos release about locations in the game. As Bethesda is known for franchises such as The Elder Scrolls and Fallout, which each provide textured and immersive experiences for players, theories abound about how Starfield will live up to its predecessors. One way Starfield will likely be able to do this is by creating multiple factions that players can choose to join.

Originally announced at E3 2018, Starfield lay relatively dormant until E3 2021 when a new trailer premiered. Starfield will be a space exploration game, placing players with the Constellation organization in a quest to answer one of the great mysteries of humanity. The trailer showed a multitude of diverse locations in space, promising unparalleled intergalactic exploration for Starfield players.

Thanks to the three Starfield location reveal videos, Bethesda has also tipped off players about some of the game's upcoming factions. Two of the cities showcased are capitals, the third a lone outpost with its own set of rules, each ruled by a different organization. There are also rumors of a pirate group called the Crimson Fleet, based on a fan transcription of a document seen in a Starfield development video, but this has not been officially confirmed by Bethesda. Though players start the game as a member of Constellation, it's likely they will be able to choose a different path within Starfield. Here's a breakdown of all faction possibilities Bethesda has revealed so far.

All Of Starfield's Confirmed Factions & Organizations

  • Constellation
  • The United Colonies
  • The Freestar Collective
  • Xenofresh (Neon)

There are two political groups confirmed for Starfield thus far. One, the United Colonies (UC), is described as the most powerful faction Starfield has to offer with a strong military foothold. Its capital city is New Atlantis, a bustling metropolis that, according to Bethesda, is host to a diverse population. Conversely, the other political entity seems much less conventional. The Freestar Collective, an alliance between three unique star systems. Its capital city of Akila is a formidable stronghold, but far from the raw power of New Atlantis. Bethesda hasn't revealed yet if there's tension between the two entities, but it seems likely players will be able to join one or the other.

Likewise, there are two organizational factions in Starfield that seem to be based in business or collective effort, as opposed to political power. One is Constellation, revealed during Starfield's E3 trailer, which appears to be focused on exploring space, similar to a futuristic NASA. Xenofresh, however, is newly revealed. It's a corporation in the Starfield universe that founded the city Neon, originally intending for it to be a fishing location. However, when they found the fish had psychedelic properties, Xenofresh decided to manufacture a drug called Aurora to turn a bigger profit. Bethesda has advertised players are members of Constellation, those who are monetarily inclined might be able to join Xenofresh as they progress through the game's narrative, though further details on the corporation's true status in Starfield's universe remain to be seen.
