Every Major New MCU Character Whose Future Is A Mystery

Marvel Studios has gifted fans with an abundance of new characters throughout phase 4, however, it's unclear where many of them fit into the grand plan for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unlike previous MCU phases, phase 4 has started out more like a series of comic books, providing audiences with various stories to choose from. But, with major movies such as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars in the pipeline, it will be interesting to see what kind of roles the new characters will play in the Multiverse Saga, if any.

While the fates of some new phase 4 characters are straightforward, others remain a mystery. For example, Ms. Marvel (introduced in Ms. Marvel) and Monica Rambeau (introduced in WandaVision) are both set to appear in The Marvels at the start of phase 5. Additionally, anti-heroes such as Yelena Belova and Taskmaster (both introduced in Black Widow) have been confirmed as part of the Thunderbolts lineup. However, other characters such as She-Hulk, Moon Knight, and the Eternals have no future projects yet lined up in the MCU. With that in mind, here is a list of every major phase 4 character whose future in the MCU remains a mystery and what projects they could potentially appear in.

Clea

While Clea only appears for a few moments in the mid-credit scene of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, her appearance in the MCU is a big deal. In the comics, not only is Clea the niece of Dormammu, but she also eventually becomes the wife of Stephen Strange. Clea hails from the Dark Dimension and is an extra-dimensional being created by magic, making her incredibly powerful. Clea tells Doctor Strange that he has created an incursion during her brief on-screen appearance, so it's likely that she will appear in a future Doctor Strange movie, but it's currently unclear when that will be. Clea's existence in the MCU also opens the door for Marvel Studios to explore more of the Dark Dimension.

America Chavez

America Chavez joined the MCU in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, where audiences saw her learn to control her power to defeat the Scarlet Witch. In both the comics and the MCU, America Chavez can travel the multiverse utilizing portals, which makes her an essential character for the Multiverse Saga. While the end of Doctor Strange 2 saw America Chavez training in the mystic arts, her unique power could potentially see her return in Avengers: Secret Wars or even a future Young Avengers movie. However, one has not been confirmed yet.

Kate Bishop

Similarly to America Chavez, Kate Bishop is another character that could tie the Young Avengers together. First introduced in Hawkeye, Kate Bishop was last seen teaming up with Hawkeye to defeat Kingpin. It's clear that the MCU is building Kate up to take over the mantle as Hawkeye eventually, but it's unclear when this transition will occur. Kate Bishop's ties to Kingpin could see her return in the upcoming Echo series or Daredevil: Born Again, but the MCU has been tight-lipped on whether she will get her own project. Additionally, Kate's budding friendship with Yelena Belova could also link her to the MCU's upcoming Thunderbolts movie.

The Eternals

While Eternals has been the most controversial film in phase 4 of the MCU, Nate Moore (VP of Production and Development) has previously confirmed that the Eternals will appear again, though it's currently unclear when. The ending of Eternals set up some interesting storylines for the team, with Sersi, Kingo, and Phastos having to face Arishem's judgment on humanity, and Thena, Makkari, and Druig now in the company of Eros and Pip the Troll. It was falsely rumored that the latter could appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but Marvel is most likely saving the whole team for a larger threat, such as the Celestials.

Black Knight

Professor Dane Whitman is first introduced as the timid boyfriend of Sersi in Eternals. He hasn't yet fulfilled his destiny of becoming the Black Knight, confirmed by the film's post-credit scene showing him first obtaining the Ebony Blade. It's clear that his appearance in Eternals is just the beginning of the character, as it appears as though his investigation into his family's history has caught the attention of Blade. Therefore, it's likely that audiences can expect to see Black Knight again in the MCU's reboot of Blade.

Eros (Starfox)

Eros, also known as Starfox, first appeared in the mid-credits scene for Eternals. In both the comics and the MCU, Eros is the adoptive brother of the Mad Titan Thanos. Eros being played by pop sensation Harry Styles ultimately sets the character up for more appearances in the MCU. Despite rumors of him appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 being shut down by James Gunn, Kevin Feige has expressed excitement for the character's future. In the comics, Eros also rejected the Celestial's mandate, so he will likely reside in the MCU as a close ally of the Eternals.

Moon Knight

Despite only signing on for one season of Moon Knight, Oscar Isaac has confirmed that Moon Knight will appear in other MCU projects, but it's currently unconfirmed what. Unlike different phase 4 installments, Moon Knight felt relatively disconnected from the wider MCU, making it more unclear where the character could reappear. However, with the release of Werewolf by Night and the upcoming Blade movie, it's possible that Marvel Studios could be planning a Midnight Sons project in the future which could involve Moon Knight.

Hercules

Hercules had his on-screen debut in the mid-credits scene of Thor: Love and Thunder and has the potential to establish even more of the MCU's gods and goddesses. In Marvel Comics, Hercules has a very similar origin to his mythological counterpart, except he also becomes an Avenger at one point. Hercules has appeared in numerous comic events such as Civil War and Marvel's World War Hulk, so there's plenty of source material for the MCU to work with. However, it's unclear where he will fit in, with his most probable next appearance being in the next Thor film, which hasn't begun development yet.

She-Hulk

She-Hulk's MCU debut has been a breath of fresh air compared to some other phase 4 additions. Her character is currently the only one to fully break the fourth wall, resulting in an interesting She-Hulk finale. Therefore, She-Hulk is able to choose her path in the MCU, which means that she has the potential to appear wherever she pleases. Given her new relationship with Daredevil, it's likely that she could appear in Daredevil: Born Again. However, it's also likely she might not appear again until Avengers: The Kang Dynasty or Avengers: Secret Wars, with Marvel remaining tight-lipped on She-Hulks future.

Werewolf By Night

Marvel Studios has taken a considerable risk in phase 4 by incorporating more horror themes into the MCU, with one of these being their Halloween special, Werewolf by Night. Jack Russell, also known as Werewolf by Night, is a character that audiences should keep on their radar as the MCU enters phases 5 and 6. While there has been no confirmation regarding the character's future, Werewolf by Night could appear in projects such as Blade and even a future Moon Knight appearance as Moon Knight first debuted in a Werewolf by Night comic book. Werewolf by Night has also been linked to the Darkhold on numerous occasions in the comics, which could tie him with characters such as Agatha Harkness in Agatha: Coven of Chaos.

Man-Thing

Man-Thing is perhaps the only character from Werewolf by Night that could be traced backward in other MCU projects, given his ties to other characters in the MCU. For example, Ellen Brandt in Iron Man 3 was Man-Thing's wife in the comics before his transformation. Additionally, he also fought in the Contests of Champions shown in Thor: Ragnarok and is also the guardian of the Nexus of All Realities, tying him to Loki and the Scarlet Witch. While Man-Things MCU's future is a mystery, he could also appear in Agatha: Coven of Chaos and Blade.

Elsa Bloodstone

Werewolf by Night saw Elsa Bloodstone take over her family's monster-hunting family business and become the bloodstone's wielder, making her one of the most powerful supernatural fighters in the MCU. However, as the Halloween special ends, it remains unclear where Elsa Bloodstones' future is headed. In the comics, Elsa has ties to characters such as Blade and Black Knight, so she would fit in more comfortably in the Blade reboot than Werewolf by Night or Man-Thing would. She has also appeared in crucial comic book arcs such as Secret Wars and Marvel Zombies, both of which are upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe projects she could potentially appear in.
