Final Fantasy 14 has received a small recent update to patch 5.41, improving on one of the most controversial locations, the Diadem. With much of the community highly focused on raiding and dungeons progression, the Diadem has always come off as an oddball location that has had its content reworked throughout expansions over the years.

Originally envisioned as a living combat zone, the Diadem was repurposed for Shadowbringers as a massive playground to allow gathers access to new items and help the crafting community. These changes were rolled into a special storyline restoring Ishgard to its former glory and conclude some parts of the Heavensward plot. While Diadem is focused on gathering, the area is still filled with roaming monsters. This isn’t a form of direct combat, but still allows players to engage with enemies by instantly destroying them and obtaining new special drops.

New Diadem Items in Final Fantasy 14

Entering the Diadem in Final Fantasy 14

Gathering classes can head to the Diadem as early as level 10, however, they must have also beaten all of Heavensward and achieved level 60 on at least one of their combat classes.

The Diadem now contains new nodes and monsters with special items. Some of these are simply high-grade level four versions of pre-existing items, while others are brand new additions to hunt for. Disciples of the Land also still have access to the Aetheromatic Auger ability, which can be used to slay otherwise non-hostile enemies. The success of gaining new and powerful items depends on the character’s current class level and it is recommended to only farm in this method at level 70 or better yet 80. These foes drop some of the new items; however, a few of them can only be gained by harvesting, logging, mining, quarry, or fishing.

As in previous versions of Diadem, these items don’t do much on their own. However, players can speak to Flotpassant in the Firmament to have items converted into “approved” status and will be given Skybuilder Scrips as a reward. These Scrips can be used to buy items, emotes, mounts, and fashion related items.

Approved Item Crafting in Final Fantasy 14

High end crafting in Final Fantasy 14

As noted, items found in the Diadem can be approved by the Firmament staff. This allows the newly gathered items to now be used for crafting. Gathers can either sell to the markets or use them for specific Disciple of the Hand classes they are leveling. This will create a supply and demand dynamic on the various worlds and data centers. Note that the world visitation system allows touring players to buy from across a data center and return home, but not directly sell and affect that world.

Potkin in the Firmament will ask crafters to make specific weekly items out of the following new materials and will provide Scrip or experience points-

  • Blacksmith: Artisanal Cloudstone, Artisanal Prismstone, Artisanal Silex, Bluespirit Ore, Electrum Ore, Gold Ore, Gold Sand, Iron Ore, Mythrite Sand, Skybuilders' Ore, Ragstone, Umbral Galewood Branch

With these new items and monster drops, the Ishgardian Restoration will have a healthy amount of Disciples of the Land and Disciples of the Hand contributing to the effort. While the actual storyline of Ishgard will likely conclude along with the Shadowbringers expansion, the actual content will remain open for new players and those still looking to level alternate classes.
