With the addition of new furniture and activities also came new villagers. Some of them are new, while others have returned from one of the earlier Animal Crossing games. These are the sixteen new villagers that Animal Crossing players can bring to their island in New Horizons, ranked.

Frett

A returning villager from the Japan-only title Animal Forest e+, Frett is a cranky yellow dog who insists that he's in the prime of his life. His hobby is music, so any player that has Frett on their island can expect to hear some occasional singing.

True to his name, Frett is prone to worrying himself out, as indicated by his catchphrase "goshers". He also tends to act as if he has everything down pact, even though his house is left in a pigsty. Who knows the last time anyone has ever seen his house clean.

Zoe

New Horizons isn't Zoe's first rodeo - this normal anteater made previous appearances in Animal ForestAnimal Crossing, and Animal Forest e+Being a normal villager, Zoe will act shy towards the player but will get along with just about anyone else. She'll even comment on the player's hygiene should they visit her house.

In fact, Zoe is so shy that it is often pointed out by other villagers. Despite that, she enjoys the company of other villagers and would rather listen than partake in a conversation.

Chabwick

Also a returning villager, Chabwick is a penguin who lives by three words - "live, laugh, lasgana". Being of the lazy variety, Chabwick aspires to do nothing but sleep around and enjoy food. His dream house in Happy Home Designer is a smokehouse where he could smoke and barbecue his food.

Chabwick is always wearing earmuffs since that's apparently the only body part of his that gets cold. He can't be seen without his earmuffs but has no problem wearing a tank top in a freezing snowstorm.

Ace

Ace's Amiibo card for Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Originating from the first Animal Crossing game, Ace is a jock bird villager with a hobby for nature. Like most nature-minded villagers, he can be found reading a book, reading on items such as fossils, fish, insects, and flowers.

With his jock personality, Ace has a very competitive spirit and is very passionate about sports and fitness. Sometimes he'll come off as rude when he critiques the fitness of his fellow villagers. When it comes down to discussing deep and thought-provoking subjects, Ace's absentmindedness and lack of intelligence oftentimes come to light.

Azalea

This snooty rhino first appeared in Animal Forest e+, where many English-speaking fans referred to her as Petunia. She makes a return in New Horizons, and just like Ace, she has an interest in nature.

Starting off, Azalea will generally act rudely towards the player. She has a strong tendency to mock other villagers on the island and will get along with cranky villagers since their personalities are similar to hers. For someone who is always seemingly in a bad mood, Azalea at least knows how to look stylish.

Faith

Faith first appeared in Animal Forest e+ as a normal villager, where she came off as spacey while having an imaginative life outlook. In New Horizons, she develops a big sister personality, which is a far cry from what she originally was.

Faith has a lot of Hawaiian vibes to her - her catchphrase is "aloha", and her preferred clothing is a hula top. Many consider this koala villager to be the life of the party, what with her cheerful persona and caring attitude towards others.

Quinn

Quinn is a new eagle villager (one of the few female eagles around), and she has a big sister personality. As such, she'll act very sisterly towards other villagers and will always take action when necessary. She'll even treat the player like a younger sibling, offering them several words of advice.

Known for her style, Quinn has quite a reputation to keep up with around the island. She can be best described as a cool and elegant eagle who wishes to express beauty in the best ways possible.

Rio

After an eighteen-year absence, Rio makes a return in New Horizons while still keeping her peppy personality. This ostrich has a Brazilian flair to her, as her name is derived from Rio de Janeiro.

Rio's hobby is music, and she is quite passionate about music as well. Any kind of upbeat music is enough to make her dancing. Rio also stresses self-care, as her e-reader card states that she has an obsession with healthy food. Almost to the point where it may be considered "UN-healthy".

Sasha

Sasha is a lazy bunny who happens to have a passion for fashion, as shown by the brown leather bag he carries around. Notably, he is the only villager in Animal Crossing to have an interest in the fashion hobby.

In addition to being somewhat of a male fashionista, Sasha has a fondness for taking selfies. Granted, he usually makes the same face in every selfie he takes, but he takes a hundred per day regardless of the lack of variety. In his own words, "timing is everything".

Roswell

Roswell goes through a bit of a personality change, as a returning villager. Previously a lazy villager in Animal Forest e+, this alligator comes off as smug in New Horizons. At least his attire remains the same.

Roswell is heavily interested in space, as his favorite saying is "Keep your eyes on the skies". According to his Pocket Camp description, he looks up at the night sky for hours, hoping to spot a UFO flying across. His obsession with UFOs is so big, he'll even request space-themed items for his home.

Ione

Ione is a normal squirrel, and she shares the same name as a nymph in Greek mythology. (Her name is also Ancient Greek for the violet flower.) She has a space theme to her; when she's in a dark environment, her hands, feet, and the insides of her ears all glow in the darkness.

Ione insists that she was born under a star, and that isn't too hard to believe given her whole space aesthetic. Those who ask her about constellations may have to brace themselves, as she'll have a lot to share.

Petri

Petri is a new mouse villager, being one of the snooty variety. She's a lab rat who is always wearing a Doctor's Coat, and her home is designed like a laboratory. Fittingly enough, her name is based either on the Petri dish, or the inventor of the container itself, Julius Richard Petri.

As with many villagers with the education hobby, Petri enjoys reading a novel or two. The player can sometimes spot her using a magnifying glass on several objects. And with her snooty personality, one can also expect Petri to act a little rude during her first few weeks on the island.

Cephalobot

Cephalobot is one of the more unique villagers players can find, as he's one of only three robot villagers in the Animal Crossing series. His design, as his name suggests, is based on an octopus.

Cephalobot is a smug villager who has quite a fascination with pizza (if his catchphrase "Take me to your pizza" is any indication). He is also interested in all things sci-fi and can be seen roaming around the island in his retro sweater. Quite a shame that he can't shoot lasers from his eyes, as most other robots can.

Shino

Shino is a deer villager whose appearance takes inspiration from a few Japanese customs. The two red horns sticking out from her forehead are similar to the hannya mask used in Japanese theater. Moreover, her eyebrows her hikimayu-styled, with some eyeshadow to go along with it.

Even though she has a noticeably demonic visage, Shino has a very peppy personality. She's very friendly and merry and can make friends as easily as one can befriend her. She'll even reward other villagers with compliments and presents, from time to time.

Tiansheng

Tiansheng is a monkey with a Chinese aesthetic, being based on the Sun Wukong character in Chinese literature. His name even comes from Wukong's title "Qí Tiān Dà Shèng", which translates to "Great Sage, Equal to Heaven" in English.

This monkey is also based on Sun Wukong design-wise, as the golden circlet he wears is reminiscent of the Monkey King portrayals in Journey to the West.

Tiansheng is a jock villager, so he's always on the move. He's running to his destination, believing that his shoes will make him run faster.

Marlo

Marlo is one of the more mysterious Animal Crossing villagers, taking inspiration from Marlon Brando's portrayal of Vito Corleone in The Godfather. His catchphrase, "gabeesh", can even be seen as a humorous spin on the Italian slang word "capiche".

Godfather influences aside, Marlo is a cranky hamster which will make him one of the older villagers a player can have on their island. It has been said that he also runs an underground organization, but no one is brave enough to ask. It's hard not to see why.
