Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith was a turning point in the Star Wars franchise, depicting the Great Jedi Purge at the hands of their own trusted clone troopers. In an emotional montage, several recognizable Jedi are tragically killed, making one of the most iconic sequences in the saga.

In the years since Revenge of the Sith was released, the events of Order 66 have been expanded upon in several series and video games, giving audiences a better understanding of the landmark moment in Star Wars history. As such, viewers are aware of several Jedi who are explicitly shown dying onscreen during these various sequences, and why these characters are important.

Mace Windu

Mace Windu in battle

Mace Windu was a leading character in all three of the Star Wars prequel films. As one of the most prominent members of the Jedi High Council, Master Windu was a leading voice of dissent against Anakin Skywalker on a number of occasions, leading to a long-lasting rivalry between the two Jedi as the Clone Wars raged on.

Master Windu died on Coruscant only moments before Chancellor Palpatine officially gave Order 66 to the clone commanders. While attempting to kill Palpatine after discovering his identity as a Sith Lord, Windu was attacked by Anakin Skywalker, who cut off his dominant hand. Seizing the opportunity, Palpatine hurled Windu through the nearby window using his Force lightning, dropping the Jedi Master to his death, though many fans suspect Master Windu may have survived his fall.

Ki-Adi-Mundi

Ki Adi Mundi in Star Wars

Ki-Adi-Mundi was a Cerean Jedi and a Master on the Jedi High Council throughout all three prequel films. Known for his exceptionally long head, which housed his binary brains, Master Mundi was an instrumental voice in determining the Jedi Order's strategy throughout the course of the Clone Wars and a vocal proponent of defending the Wookiee population after their home world of Kashyyyk was attacked by the Separatist army.

Master Ki-Adi-Mundi was leading an assault in the Third Battle of Mygeeto when Order 66 was given to the clone commanders across the galaxy. Mundi was one of the few Jedi Masters to sense the oncoming slaughter, turning to face his troops just before they fired on him. His foresight allowed him to deflect several laser blasts before eventually being shot and killed by Commander Bacara and his men.

Aayla Secura

Aayla Secura in Star Wars Revenge of the Sith

Aayla Secura was a Twi'lek Jedi Master throughout the Clone Wars and the onetime apprentice of Master Quinlan Vos, a known survivor of Order 66. Secura made her first appearance during the First Battle of Geonosis in Attack of the Clones, becoming one of the few Jedi survivors of the skirmish.

Aayla Secura and her troops were on a mission to the forest planet of Felucia when Chancellor Palpatine ordered her death. Clone Commander Bly, a longtime ally of Master Secura, received the order and proceeded to shoot his general in the back, killing her without a fight.

Plo Koon

Attack of the Clones

Plo Koon was a character first introduced as a member of the Jedi High Council during The Phantom Menace. Serving on the council throughout the prequel trilogy, Master Koon is most prominently featured in the animated anthology series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, where he is a frequent collaborator of Ahsoka Tano.

Plo Koon was flying a mission over Cato Neimoidia in his Jedi Starfighter when his troops received the order to kill him. Led by clone Captian Jag, Master Koon's troops pulled back and fired on his starfighter, causing the Jedi Master to crash into a nearby spire, exploding in a ball of fire.

Stass Allie

A squad on speeders in Star Wars

Stass Allie joined the Jedi Council during the latter years of the Clone Wars, filling the position left after her cousin, Adi Gallia, was killed during a battle with Savage Oppress and Maul on Florrum. Like Gallia, Master Allie was a Tholothian Jedi, as signified by the blue tendrils that sprout from her skull.

By the final days of the Clone Wars, Stass Allie had been dispatched to carry out a series of operations against the Separatists in the Outer Rim. While traveling across a plain on Saleucami by speeder bike, Commander Neyo and his troops pulled back and fired on her, causing her to crash and die in a fiery explosion.

Shaak Ti

Shaak Ti from Clone Wars.

Shaak Ti was a Jedi Master serving as a member of the High Council during the final years of the Clone Wars. The Togruta Jedi was assigned to oversee the training of new clone troopers on the planet of Kamino for much of the war but is assumed to have returned to Coruscant in the days preceding the execution of Order 66.

While there is some debate over the details of Shaak Ti's death, as multiple deleted scenes provide conflicting accounts, one particular deleted scene depicts Master Ti being slain by Anakin Skywalker while meditating in her quarters in the Jedi Temple. Though other accounts maintain that she was killed by Grievous prior to Order 66, her death at the hands of Skywalker seems more likely.

The Younglings

Anakin kills the younglings in Revenge of the Sith

The younglings at the Jedi Temple were prized members of the Order, who were mainly trained by Master Yoda as they prepared to be selected as Padawans. Taken from their families at a young age, these Force-sensitive children were present at the Jedi temple on the night of Order 66.

When Anakin Skywalker led his troops into the Jedi Temple on the night of the Great Jedi Purge, some of the temple's younglings took cover in the High Council chambers. There, they were discovered by the fallen Jedi and, believing him to be an ally, the younglings revealed themselves to him, leading to one of Anakin Skywalker's darkest moments in the franchise. The Obi-Wan Kenobi series would later confirm that other younglings were killed by Anakin in the temple that day as well, with at least one being preserved in the Fortress Inquisitorious for over a decade.

Zett Jukassa

Order 66 Zett Zukasa

Portrayed by George Lucas's son, Jett Lucas, Zett Jukassa was a Jedi Padawan training on Coruscant at the time of Order 66. Jukassa was a common visitor of the Jedi archives, where he had frequent conversations with Jedi Master Jocasta Nu, the temple librarian.

Zett Jakussa appears briefly in Revenge of the Sith, leaping into battle against clone troopers that had confronted Senator Bail Organa on Coruscant. Fighting bravely, Jakussa takes out several clones before being shot down himself, confirming Organa's suspicions about the Jedi massacre.

Depa Billaba

Depa Billaba in Star Wars Bad Batch

Depa Billaba was a member of the Jedi Council at the time of Order 66, who had recently reclaimed her seat following a leave of absence due to a grave injury suffered during the Clone Wars. As the former Padawan learner of Mace Windu himself, Billaba was well-equipped to train her own apprentice, Caleb Dume, who would go on to become Kanan Jarrus, a main character in Star Wars: Rebels.

Master Billaba was on a mission to the planet of Kaller with her Padawan when her clone commander was given the order to kill her. Sensing the looming threat, Billaba was able to warn her Padawan and hold off her troops long enough for him to escape with the help of the Bad Batch. Unfortunately, Depa Billaba did not prove so lucky, and was killed in the ensuing battle.

Jaro Tapal

Jaro Tapal, Cal's master, is killed during the execution of Order 66, a memory that haunts Cal throughout Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Jaro Tapal was the Master of the young Padawan Cal Kestis, as seen in the video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The Lasat Jedi was known for his intimidating stature and soft heart, making him a well-balanced and affectionate master to his apprentice, who would go on to survive the events of Order 66.

After assisting in the Bracca Invasion during the Clone Wars, Tapal and Kestis were betrayed by their clone troopers while aboard their flagship. The two Jedi attempted to escape their attackers by fleeing to Bracca, but Tapal was mortally wounded while defending his Padawan. After bidding Kestis "hold the line" and "trust the Force," Tapal died before his Padawan's very eyes.
