An organized catalog of every item available in Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been assembled online. Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been one of the most popular games of the past few months since it was released for the Nintendo Switch back in March 20, 2020. It is also the best-selling game of 2020 so far with over 13 million copies sold, surpassing the game’s lifetime sales projections.
The fifth main installment in the long-running Animal Crossing series from Nintendo, the popularity of Animal Crossing: New Horizons was understandably helped by the ongoing COVID-19 crisis that has forced many people to stay at home and find ways to not only spend their time but also interact with friends. Its popularity even helped cause a temporary Nintendo Switch shortage shortly after its launch. The game was also recently removed from Chinese grey market websites due to some Hong Kong protesters using the game to continue their protests amid the aforementioned crisis.
The New Horizons item database was constructed by GameFAQs, one of the longest-running video game FAQ and walkthrough websites in the world, where fans can not only search and view the details of every item in the game but the website says fans can also “track which items you've owned and cataloged, create a wishlist, compare your items to other users', and find out exactly when the bugs or fish you're missing can be caught.” According to GameFAQs, their database was partially based on data from another database that was created by fans via Google Sheets. Apart from the items themselves, the GameFAQs database also catalogs the game’s many villagers and even the recipes required to craft the game’s myriad of items.
The availability of so many items in the game is partially due to the introduction of a crafting system that has led to one of the game’s popular features, letting players design, decorate, and customize the game’s rooms to their liking. Players are also able to design and create customized clothing, with some creating clothes based on popular characters such as Iron Man, Resident Evil 4’s Leon, and Woody from Toy Story.
With the large number of items available in the game, having a detailed database covering every item in the game can be really helpful for players to not only keep track of what they have and want but to also discover new items that they may want to acquire later on. Hopefully GameFAQs as well as the game’s dedicated community continue to update the database to only help the game’s current playerbase but also new players in the future.
