Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga didn't pass up the opportunity to feature several well-known contestants of the real-life annual song competition. The Netflix musical comedy was written by Andrew Steele and Will Ferrell, the latter of which also co-starred in the film alongside Rachel McAdams as two Icelandic singers who find an opportunity to represent their country in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. The film's cast also includes Pierce Brosnan and Dan Stevens.
Lars Erickssong (Ferrell) dreamed of winning the Eurovision Song Contest from the time he was a very young boy. Decades later, he and his best friend Sigrit Ericksdóttir form a band named Fire Saga. The Húsavík, Iceland, natives apply for the annual contest and are chosen to compete in the pre-selection contest. After a tragic incident, Lars and Sigrit find an opportunity to serve as Iceland's representatives. When they arrive in Edinburgh, Scotland, for the event, the pair's loyalty is tested when they realize they're in over their heads.
In addition to clever casting decisions, Eurovision Song Contest also features a number of real singers, including a brilliant cameo by Demi Lovato as a pop singer from Iceland. In addition, the Netflix movie hosts a slew of appearances by singers who have previously competed in or won Eurovision. Alexander Rybak: The Norwegian singer and violinist won Eurovision in 2009 at the age of 23 with a song called "Fairytale." He competed a few more times, including the 2018 event when he came in 15th place.
Jessy Matador: The singer represented France in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 and placed 12th with the song "Allez Ola Olé."
Loreen: The Swedish pop singer performed the song "Euphoria" which ended up winning the competition in 2012 which was held in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Conchita Wurst: Drag queen Thomas Neuwirth performed as his stage persona as the Austrian representative in 2014 and ended up winning the contest with the song "Rise Like a Phoenix."
Jamala: Susana Alimivna Jamaladinova, better known as Jamala, served as the Ukrainian representative in 2016's Eurovision contest and won the event with her song "1944."
Elina Nechayeva: The Estonian singer competed in 2018 where she placed 8th with the Italian song titled "La Forza."
Netta: The Israeli singer represented her country in 2018 where she won the contest with her song "Toy." It marked Israel's fourth win in the country's history with the Eurovision Song Contest.
Salvador Sobral: The singer and pianist from Portugal gave his country its first Eurovision win with the song "Amar Pelos Dois." He appeared playing the piano while Lars and Sigrit were touring around Edinburgh.
John Lundvik: The singer represented Sweden in 2019 where he placed finished in 5th place with the song "Too Late for Love."
Anna Odobescu: The Moldovan singer competed in 2019 with the song "Stay."
Bilal Hassani: The French representative placed 16th with the song "Roi" in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019.
