One of the most intriguing developments of the current season of Euphoria has been the budding relationship between Fez and Lexi, as it improves the characters and fixes their problems from season 1. In Euphoria season 1, Fez and Lexi had fixed roles. Fez was the neighborhood drug dealer with a heart of gold, while Lexi basically stayed in the background. However, with the introduction of a potential romance, these two characters have a chance to become more than who they were last season.

The Fez and Lexi storyline begins in the Euphoria season 2 premiere, "Trying to Get to Heaven Before They Close the Door." The episode largely takes place at a classmate's New Year's Eve party. At the party, Lexi is stressed because she can't find her sister, Cassie, who is secretly hooking up with Nate, her best friend's ex. She ends up flopping down on a couch in defeat, where Fez happens to be sitting. The two of them strike up a conversation and quickly learn that they enjoy each other's company. The moment is dashed when Lexi witnesses Fez brutally beat up Nate, but the seeds of something between Lexi and Fez have already been planted.

The idea of a romance between Lexi and Fez has the potential to enhance the storylines of both characters. As the cold open of the Euphoria season 2 premiere showed, Fez has not had an easy life. He was raised by his grandmother and thrust into the world of drug dealing at a young age. Being with Lexi could bring some normalcy into Fez's life, and bring some balance for both characters in Euphoria season 2. Lexi is a kind, understanding person who probably wouldn't judge Fez for his past. She can be a stabilizing presence for Fez, whose life is filled with drama, from dealing with Rue's struggles with sobriety to having to take care of Faye, his friend Custer's girlfriend, while she's hiding from the cops. The first episode of season 2 has already shown that the two of click well and Fez has shown that he loves hearing Lexi's perspective on things. She's different, and that intrigues him.

Euphoria Fez & Lexi

Having Fez as a romantic partner could also benefit Lexi. In episode 4 of Euphoria season 2, Lexi's story improves when she decides to stop being "an observer" in her own life because she didn't intervene when Cal confronted Fez at his convenience store two episodes earlier. This spurs Lexi to actually do something with her life: write and direct her own play to be performed at East Highland High. In Euphoria season 1, Lexi was basically a stand-in for the audience, reacting to the antics of the other main characters. Beyond him being something of a catalyst for her change, Fez has also shown that he can break Lexi out of her shell and halt her self-deprecating tendencies. At the party in the premiere, Lexi laughs when Fez says he missed her after she briefly left, and calls her "the coolest person in here." Lexi is used to being in the shadows, irrelevant compared to Cassie, so having Fez in her life can show her there is someone out there who truly sees her and cares about what she has to say.

A Fez and Lexi romance could benefit Euphoria by giving the audience a fun storyline to engage with, but it could also improve Fez and Lexi themselves in Euphoria season 2 and generate more great performances. The two characters have such different personalities, but their opposite traits can balance and enhance one another. Their interactions haven't been a large part of Euphoria's second season so far, but hopefully there's more Fexi content to come. Fez and Lexi are already adored by audiences and Maude Apatow and Angus Cloud should get more opportunities to show the crackling chemistry between their two characters.
