Warning: This article contains spoilers for season 2 of Euphoria, as well as mentions of drug use.

With the massive numbers that the Euphoria season 2 finale did, making it, according to Collider, HBO's second most-watched show of all time, there is no better time to take a look at the show's best characters, ranked according to the thousands of cinephiles and television fans at Ranker. Sam Levinson has done an amazing job at telling a visually distinct and authentic story of a group of high school students going through the highs and lows of growing up and dealing with tough issues of drugs, sex, and identity.

The incredible cast of the show does a great job taking Levinson's characters and bringing them to life in truly memorable ways. The show features incredible performances by Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, and Sydney Sweeney, to name a few.

Leslie Bennett

Leslie Bennett on the phone on Euphoria

Leslie Bennett is the mother of both Rue and Gia and is played by Nika King. Leslie has had a pretty rough narrative throughout the first two seasons of Euphoria, but she has remained extremely tough. She quickly lost her husband to cancer, and then was eventually forced into a battle with Rue, for her life, over her drug use.

Leslie's level-headed demeanor truly shines in season two, episode five, as Rue chaotically runs around town trying to escape Leslie's attempts to check her into a rehabilitation facility. At the end of the day, Leslie is an extremely dedicated, kind, and caring single mother doing her absolute best.

Madeleine "Maddy" Perez

Maddy smirking in Euphoria.

Maddy Perez has slightly evolved as a character and has tons of potential going forward for season 3. Maddy started in season 1 as the girl who walked all over Nate Jacobs and did whatever she wanted, and in season 2, it is kind of the opposite. Nate walks all over Maddy throughout most of the season, but it does end with Maddy finally being done with Nate.

This leaves Maddy in a position that the audience has not quite seen her in yet, single and without Nate in her life. Maddy is played by Alexa Demie, also known for Waves and Mid90s.

Fez's Grandma

Fez's grandmother in a car in Euphoria

Fez's grandmother had a short-lived appearance in season two episode one, but she left a huge impact on the show and its audience. They were introduced to Fez's grandmother during Fezco's backstory in the introduction of the episode. The character is excellently brought to life by Kathrine Narducci, who famously portrayed Charmaine Bucco in The Sopranos.

Narducci brings incredible humanity to the role as viewers see her care for a young Fezco, take him in, rescue him from his father, and ultimately bring him into the family business, teaching Fezco to be the person he is currently. It is a great chance to see how Fezco became the unique individual that he is, as the apple does not fall far from the tree.

Gia Bennett

A sad Gia after seeing her crush with another girl in school in Euphoria

Gia Bennett is Rue's dedicated and devoted little sister. Gia has more of her own storyline in season one, growing up with friends of her own, experimenting with drugs, and having fun at parties as she navigates her own life. However, in season two, Gia's story took a backseat to Rue as fans only get to see Gia dealing with the trauma and aftermath of her sister's drug dependence.

It is not until the end of the season that the audience discovers her grades have started to slip, and she is starting to act out very similarly to how Rue did when she was that age. Hopefully, Gia can focus on herself a little going forward. Gia is played by Storm Reid.

Ethan Lewis

Ethan in Euphoria

Ethan is Kat's slightly nerdy and innocent boyfriend that ends up being the star of Lexi's play toward the end of season 2. Throughout most of the first season, Ethan tries and wins Kat over, but the relationship took a bit of a turn in the second season as they mostly fight and begin to grow apart.

Ethan truly comes out of his shell and shines during Lexi's play, starring in multiple roles, including the fan-favorite portrayal of Cassie and Lexi's mom Suze. Ethan is played by Austin Abrams.

Rue Bennett

Rue sitting down in Euphoria season 2.

Rue Bennett is the main character of the show and is brilliantly played by Zendaya. Rue can be tough to love at times and definitely not the most likable main character on the show, but she is sympathetic and incredibly caring. Viewers of the show cannot help but want to see her do better and achieve some type of happiness.

Season 2 truly displayed the worst of Rue as she belittled and berated almost everyone she really cared about as she addressed her dependence and went through an extremely difficult detox.

Ali

Ali sitting in a diner in Euphoria

Ali is Rue's wise and deep mentor she meets while attending NA meetings. Ali has had a troubled past of his own that has led him to have messy relationships with his own family, and his daughter Marie will not even talk to him anymore. However, Ali is much farther along in his process of recovery than Rue and has insights and thoughts on the process that are extremely helpful.

Ali sees through her lies and does not let her get away with anything, which is exactly what Rue needs. Ali is one of Levinson's more fleshed-out characters with an interesting backstory and relatable demeanor, and many fans feel like he displays main character energy.

Ashtray

Ashtray on Euphoria

Ashtray is Fezco's extremely tough and self-sufficient little brother. Not a lot is known about Ashtray's backstory, but the audience found out in season two that his mom left him to Fezco's grandmother as collateral for a drug deal and never came back for him. Ashtray ended up growing up similarly to Fezco in that he learned the business at a very young age and matured rapidly from it.

Despite being mature for his age, Ashtray is definitely one of the most chaotic characters on the show, ultimately leading to his demise in the season 2 finale.

Lexi Howard

Lexi sitting down in Euphoria.

Lexi Howard is the quiet and observant sister of Cassie Howard and the daughter of Suze. Lexi was definitely one of the most underrated characters of the first season, not getting much screen time or character development to work with. However, fans of the character were treated to much more screen time in season 2, as well as her own narrative.

Lexi decides to write and direct her own play for the school drama club, but the play is about her, her friends, and their high school drama. The play ends up being the ultimate climax for season two and is extremely revealing about Lexi and almost all of the main characters of the show. Lexi truly shines as one of the most intelligent characters on the show, and it is great to see her and Rue rekindling their friendship.

Fezco

Fez appearing confused in Euphoria

Fezco has truly evolved and developed as a character throughout the two seasons of Euphoria while still staying grounded and remaining true to himself. In season one, Fezco was mainly just seen as Rue's drug dealer until she starts to try and get sober, and Fez proves that he cares more about Rue than making money off of drugs.

Viewers were finally treated to Fezco's backstory at the beginning of season 2 and saw that he has had a rough life. Fezco might be a drug dealer, but he cares about his friends and family a lot and would do anything for them or anything to protect them. This is evident in the season two opener when Fezco brutally beats Nate Jacobs for messing with his friends.
