A new trailer for Marvel's Eternals hints that the upcoming film will explore the creation of the MCU itself. Eternals, directed by Academy Award-winner Chloé Zhao (Nomadland), tells the story of a race of immortal beings known as Eternals who, after living in hiding on earth for thousands of years, reunite to defeat an evil force known as the Deviants. The film, which is due out next month, is one of Marvel's most anticipated new movies and marks an important shift in the MCU as fans know it.

The stellar cast for Eternals includes Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kit Harrington, Gemma Chan, Salma Hayek, Don Lee, Kumail Nanjiani, Barry Keoghan, Lia McHugh, Lauren Ridloff, and Brian Tyree Henry. The film has already received praise for its inclusive and diverse cast, including the casting of Ridloff as the MCU's first deaf superhero, and the inclusion of Marvel's first openly gay superhero, Phastos, who is played by Henry. Trailers have also hinted that Zhao is bringing a unique visual language to the film that differs from previous MCU entries.

A new trailer, posted to YouTube by Marvel Entertainment, hints that Eternals will explore the very creation of the MCU. The new featurette shows off some new behind-the-scenes shots from the film and also features interviews with several of the main cast members and the President of Marvel Studios himself, Kevin Feige. The film appears to cover an extensive amount of ground and deals with both past and present aspects of the MCU. Feige says that the film "explores the very creation of the Marvel Universe itself," and producer Nate Moore affirms that it will also deal with the events immediately following Avengers: Endgame and the general state the world is in. Check out the trailer below:

The trailer features several shots from previous Avengers films, including Thanos' infinity gauntlet and the core Avengers team, in their Quantum Suits, putting their fists together in Endgame. While the film will definitely be breaking new ground in many ways and telling its own story, it appears Eternals will also devote some of its runtime to explaining and re-contextualizing important events from past MCU films. After all, the trailers have made clear that the Eternals have been in hiding on Earth during all of the events of previous MCU films, including Endgame, where the fate of the entire planet was at risk.

While the new trailer doesn't give too much away and seems to be keeping many surprises in store for audiences, it does suggest that Eternals will mark a turning point of sorts for the MCU. Much like Endgame marked the end of an era for many fan-favorite characters, Eternals seems poised to expand the world in a big way and set up future phases of the MCU. Although audiences have already gotten a taste of Phase 4 with Black Widow and Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings, early trailers suggest Eternals will likely bring about more cataclysmic change that may even alter how audiences think about some of their favorite MCU films of the past. Eternals is scheduled to release on November 5th.
