Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Marvel's Eternals.

Harry Styles' surprise Starfox cameo in Eternals' mid-credits scene begs the question of whether he will become an Avenger, and where the character’s MCU future lies. Despite the universally low initial ratings for Eternals, Chloé Zhao's sweeping superhero epic successfully adds a slew of interesting new characters to the MCU all at once. Starfox is key among those new additions, brought to life by the former One Direction star, and his MCU future has the potential to be incredibly compelling.

Eternals ends with what is left of the immortals splitting up to pursue their separate paths. While Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani), Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry), and Sersi (Gemma Chan) decide to stay on Earth due to their social ties, Thena (Angelina Jolie), Makkari (Lauren Ridloff), and Druig (Barry Keoghan) board The Domo to search for other Eternals to enlighten across the universe. Before their journey can begin, however, a portal appears on their spaceship, out of which strides Pip the Troll and his master Starfox, who claims that their fellow Eternals are in trouble—and he knows where to find them.

Starfox, better known by his birth name Eros, is the Marvel Comics' embodiment of desire, acting in direct opposition to his brother Thanos, the harbinger of death. Like the others aboard The Domo, Starfox is also an Eternal, making his entrance into the MCU very timely. Beyond that, fans will have to wait to see exactly what the new character will bring to the franchise. In the meantime, there are plenty of theories about his future and whether or not Harry Styles' Starfox will join up with the Avengers, as well as information from the comic book source material that may shed some light.

Starfox's Superhero Team-Ups In The Comics

Starfox in Guardians

In Marvel Comics canon, Eros is a carefree womanizer who frames the parameters of his life around hedonistic excess. As carefree as he is cunning, Starfox’s inherent powers are derived from his personality, which manifests as a psychic ability, enabling him to stimulate the brains of those around him, making them aroused, euphoric, or sedated at will. Yet despite the nefarious connotations surrounding his mind-control abilities, Starfox is dead-set on being a hero in the Marvel universe, joining many critical missions across his lengthy comics storyline.

Starfox has joined several notable groups across his illustrious Marvel history, with his Avengers team-up being by far the most prominent. Eros' first explained original action on Earth was to join the Avengers' training program, a module he was accepted into under the expectation he changed his codename to Starfox immediately. After proving his worth to the Avengers by aiding in the defeat of Annihilus, Starfox was inducted as a fully-fledged member of the superhero team, going on to resuscitate Vision, defeat Terminus, and subdue the nefarious Morgan Le Fay.

In addition to his illustrious Avenger title, Starfox has also aided various Marvel characters across different timelines and continuities. He and Spider-Man once traveled dimensions together to find Terminus' weakness, while his continued partnership with Marvel's Pip the troll is present in almost every issue involving Eros. One of Starfox's other notable team-ups in Marvel comics came in the form of the Dark Guardians, as he allied himself with Gladiator, Nebula, Ghost Rider and Wraith in an attempt to stop Thanos from being reincarnated in Gamora's host body.

Harry Styles' Starfox Can Answer Questions About Thanos' Origin

While Thanos occupies the undivided attention of Earth's heroes in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, both films dedicate minimal exposition to Thanos' complex origins. Harry Styles' Starfox, however, can answer the question of the Mad Titan's origin in greater detail by virtue of his own backstory upon the destroyed planet Titan. As Thanos' kin, Starfox's history will shed light on the history of Titan and the inexorable fall of the great planet as his brother descends into darkness.

In Marvel comics, Starfox is designed to be an opposite reflection of his brother in almost every way. This is inline with writer-artist Jim Starlin’s original intention to create two characters who represented the concepts of Thanatos and Eros, aka death and desire. As his appearance at the end of Marvel's Eternals may connote, Starfox is an Eternal both by heritage and physiology, which imbues him with the regeneration, super-strength, and other potent qualities that make the Eternals' race so formidable. The MCU Starfox's heritage can also shed more light on Thanos' formative years, given that the Mad Titan is technically categorized as a Deviant in Marvel comics canon.

Will Starfox Become An Avenger?

Starfox in Marvel comics

While Harry Styles' appearance as Eros is admittedly brief, his Marvel Comics backstory heavily suggests he will at least cross paths with the MCU's Avengers at some point in the future. His introduction aboard The Domo has already revealed that Starfox is in commune with at least one other Celestial via his orb, suggesting he is privy to the events unfolding across the MCU's phase 4 to date as he offers to help Angelina Jolie's Thena, Druig, and Makkari save their kin. Pip's introduction for Starfox also poignantly notes his lineage as Thanos' brother, a line that will undoubtedly be explored the next time Eros is seen on-screen as the Eternals are shown to be acutely aware of the Mad Titan and his actions on Earth.

Starfox is also likely to become an Avenger since much of his original narrative has yet to unfold within the MCU. Villains like Annihilus and Terminus are still to be introduced as foes to the Avengers, with their defeat in the original comics heavily influenced by Starfox's actions and superpowers. Canonically, Starfox also enjoys a jovial relationship with Spider-Man, making their multiverse adventures together a prime target for inclusion in future installments, including a meeting in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness very much on the table. In summary, the Eternals mid-credits scene seems highly likely to be designed to deliberately integrate the Eternals into the wider MCU. While Starfox does not meet with Thena and company in Marvel Comics, his heritage as an Eternal makes him the perfect conduit to introduce both the Eternals and himself to other beloved MCU properties - with the Avengers being his next logical destination.
