Salma Hayek enjoyed a fun birthday bash with Eternals co-star Angelina Jolie. The Mexican-American actress, who turned 55 on September 2, is making her MCU debut as Ajak, the spiritual leader of the Eternals. Jolie will play the warrior Thena, who forges weapons using her powerful cosmic energy. Based on the Marvel comics, Eternals follows a group of immortal aliens who have been silently observing the events on Earth for thousands of years.

The upcoming film is set after the events of Avengers: Endgame and will see the ultra-powerful beings emerge from hiding to protect Earth from their evil counterparts, the Deviants. The highly anticipated Marvel project is slated to hit theaters in November. As part of MCU'S Phase 4, Eternals is expected to push Marvel's epic saga into new heights. Hayek and Jolie lead an ensemble cast including Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Don Lee, Barry Keoghan, Lauren Ridloff, and Brian Tyree Henry.

Hayek and Jolie have evidently formed a friendship while filming Eternals together, since Hayek rang in her 55th birthday over the weekend with her co-star by her side. Hayek posted a video of the celebrations on Instagram, in which Jolie is seen celebrating with Hayek's family and friends. The Maleficent actress sits comfortably beside the birthday girl as the group happily chants "Mordida!" while participating in a Mexican tradition of pushing the birthday celebrator's face into their cake to take the first bite. Jolie seems hesitant at first, but Hayek gives her a gentle pat to signal her approval. The Frida star wrote in her caption, "My brother and me teaching Angie the Mexican mordida." Check out the full video below:

This isn't the first time Hayek has hinted at her newfound friendship with Jolie. In December 2019 after wrapping filming for Eternals, she posted a selfie with her famous co-star. Hayek also sent birthday greetings to the actress and humanitarian activist on her birthday in June, sharing a photo of the pair on a promotional tour for the movie. In the post, Hayek called Jolie her "Eternal sister." Jolie, who officially joined Instagram last month, has yet to respond to Hayek's post.

While sightings of Jolie at social gatherings are rare (at least in the public eye), it is clear that the actress is quite comfortable in Hayek's company during her birthday celebrations. Her attendance is proof that the two A-listers have become close while working together. Their friendship is a welcome alliance in Hollywood, since both women are well-known for their humanitarian efforts and as activists for women's rights around the world. In just a few months, fans will see the pair's real-life friendship translate on the big screen as Eternals gears up for its big premiere.
