Leaked action figure images reveal that the MCU’s Eternals will be sporting one of their most powerful abilities, one that could have the potential to melt Thor’ hammer, Mjolnir. Based on what’s been said about the characters and how they were portrayed in the comics, it’s believed that the Eternals will be among the strongest characters ever to appear in the MCU.

In Marvel Comics, the Eternals are a race of super-powered immortals genetically engineered by god-like cosmic beings called the Celestials. They’ve lived on the Earth for thousands of years, and have managed to do so while keeping their existence a secret from humankind. In 2021, Marvel will adapt them to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with their own movie, which will feature live-action versions of key characters like Ikaris, Thena, Sersi, Makkari, and more. Since there hasn’t been a trailer yet, not a lot is known about what each character can do, outside of what’s been said about them in the synopsis and set photos.

One of their abilities was teased in leaked images of Eternals action figures in the Marvel Legends toyline. An interchangeable head that goes with the Ikaris figure has yellow energy around his eyes, which would be used for when the character is about shoot cosmic rays out of his eyes. Cosmic eyebeams are a power that’s shared by all Eternals in Marvel Comics, so Ikaris (Richard Madden) may not be the only hero in the movie who can use this ability.

These rays have been shown to possess great destructive potential, with numerous examples in the comics. Buildings, spaceships, and monsters can all be brought down if hit by them. Ikaris and Thena have used them to hurt Silver Surfer, who is one of the most powerful Marvel heroes of all time. Eternals’ eyebeams have been known to melt weapons wielded by gods like Ares, which are often shown to be equal in terms of durability to the Asgardians’s Uru metal. With that in mind, it’s possible that a highly concentrated cosmic blast from an Eternal could melt something as strong as Mjolnir or Stormbreaker.

The power of these rays varies depending on who’s using them and how much cosmic energy is being channeled. Some Eternals have focused on improving this power, and for that reason it can be even more lethal than normal. Ikaris is an example of an Eternal who commands a heightened amount of cosmic energy. Eternals also have complete control over how devastating these blasts can be. An Eternal can simply singe an opponent (if that’s their goal), or they can take it to another level and obliterate them. In one comic, Ajak used his eyebeams to disintegrate Makkari. The fact that these beams are so powerful that the Eternals can destroy their own kind with them is a testament of just how dangerous they really are. After all, they have a reputation for being incredibly difficult to kill. The addition of this ability in Eternals provides further evidence that even Thanos wouldn’t be able to hold up against them.
