According to a new report, the post-credits scenes for Marvel's upcoming film Eternals were not shown at an early press screening. Directed and co-written by Academy Award-winner Chloé Zhao, the story will follow a group of ancient, powerful beings called the Eternals after they are tasked with protecting the human race from the evil Deviants. Eternals is the third cinematic installment in the MCU's Phase 4, and stars Richard Madden, Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Gemma Chan, and more.

Coming on the heels of Marvel's recently-confirmed Multiverse, Eternals has some pretty big expectations to live up to. So far, 2021's Phase 4 movie releases (Black Widow, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringshave teased some major storylines. In Black Widow, audiences see Natasha's sister, Yelena, approached by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, setting up a Hawkeye/Yelena revenge arc. In Shang-Chi, the movie's mid-credits scene hints at a partnership between Shang-Chi, Wong, Katy, Captain Marvel, and the Hulk, while its post-credits scene sees Shang-Chi's sister, Xialing, leading the Ten Rings.

On Twitter, @FilmUpdates revealed that the post-credits scenes for Eternals were allegedly not shown during a press screening on October 18th. Earlier this month, Zhao confirmed that there are two post-credits scenes that are "equally as important in weight," meaning the scenes will likely be crucial to the future of the MCU. The full tweet can be read below:

Perhaps there's a specific reason as to why they're not showing the scenes just yet — one that surrounds British pop singer Harry Styles. Hilariously enough, fans of Styles took to Twitter to respond to the thread after allegations that he will appear in Eternals as Thanos' brother, Starfox, surfaced last August. It's no secret that Styles is directing his attention from the stage to the big screen after snagging lead roles in upcoming films like Don't Worry, Darling and My PolicemanSo, when Netflix writer Kris Tapley tweeted (then deleted) that the singer will star in a Marvel movie “no one knows he’s in,” fans obviously got excited. While the rumors remain pure speculation, some impressive fan art imagining Styles as Starfox proves that the singer/actor could certainly pull off a superhero look.

With such significant post-credits scenes, it's not entirely surprising that the Eternals creators and/or Marvel execs would want to hold off on showing the post-credits scenes until the movie opens to the public. Little remains known about what will follow Eternals, as Disney recently announced that 6 upcoming MCU projects, including Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, have been postponed. It'll be interesting to see what impact Eternals' post-credits scenes will have on the rest of the MCU and if Disney's recent announcement will affect that. But for now, fans can look forward to the highly anticipated Eternals, which arrives in theaters on November 5th.
