The Eternals movie potentially sets up the arrival of Galactus to the MCU, teases screenwriter Kaz Firpo. The newest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is written by cousins Kaz and Ryan Firpo along with Patrick Burleigh and the Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao. The film introduces an all-new team of superheroes to the MCU portrayed by an ensemble cast that includes Angelina  Jolie and Salma Hayek. Eternals also stars Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee, and Kit Harington.

Marvel's latest blockbuster introduces the immortal alien race known as the Eternals, assigned by their creator (the Celestial Arishem) to protect Earth from an invasive threat, the Deviants. This conflict plays out over the next 7,000 years, which the film chronicles by hopping back and forth between two separate timelines. Eternals also takes a deeper dive into the cosmic aspects of the MCU by introducing a Celestial who plays a prominent role. The space gods were previously teased in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

In an interview with The Direct, Eternals screenwriter Kaz Firpo teased that another powerful cosmic being could be making his way into the MCU. Firpo thinks Galactus is an "amazing" and "iconic" character whose door is now open to be explored. He added that he would not only be willing to feature Galactus in a sequel but is excited about the prospect if that's what fans want. Read what Firpo had to say below:

Galactus is an amazing, amazing character, and villain. We are, you know, obviously setting the stage for intergalactic, cosmic, megalith confrontations, especially when you kill a space god—and then the space god comes and kidnaps you and plans to judge Earth, I think the door is very much open for world-eating villains. There’s definitely conversations about these post-credits sequences, about who we’re introducing, where we’re going… Galactus is one of those iconic figures of the Marvel Universe that we’re excited to see. But sometimes I think you leave yourself open, you leave these doors open, and who knows what’s happening in number two. Maybe you’re too busy saving a Celestial from Galactus that you end up incurring his [wrath]… anything’s possible. You know we don’t know where we’re going to go in number 2 yet, but if audiences want to see it, we’re excited to explore it.

Ever since Disney's acquisition of 21st Century Fox, which gave Marvel Studios access to their treasure trove of properties, Galactus has been eyed as one of the characters fans most want to see in the MCU. The supervillain was previously seen in 2007's Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer as a cosmic entity who feeds on life-bearing planets to survive.

Once it became clear that Eternals would properly introduce the Celestials, speculation began that the film could also be setting up Galactus' introduction to the MCU, and its cliffhanger ending only reignited those theories. With Arishem vowing to return to Earth one day for judgment, a world-eating villain like Galactus seems like the next logical antagonist for a sequel to Eternals, which is already more than likely at this point. Fans will have to wait a while to find out what the future has in store, as Eternals is still early in its theatrical run.
