Kit Harington isn't sure what lies ahead for his Eternals character Dane Whitman, but he hopes the new Marvel movie is just the beginning. After spending 8 seasons as Jon Snow over on Game of Thrones, Harington will board another pop culture behemoth with this November's Eternals. He'll play Dane Whitman, aka Black Knight, for the MCU movie, which is largely centered on the titular group of cosmic beings. Unlike them, though, Dane is a human, and his role in Eternals is being kept mostly under wraps.

Directed by Chloe Zhao, Eternals is shaping up to be something of a gamble for the MCU. In addition to introducing a whole host of characters non-comics fans might not be familiar with, Zhao's approach to the story appears to be far more grounded and empathetic than a standard Marvel movie. Luckily, Eternals also boasts an impressively star-studded cast that can help win audiences over. In addition to Harington, the movie features Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Angelina Jolie, Kumail Nanjiani, Brian Tyree Henry, Don Lee, Lauren Ridloff, Lia McHugh, Barry Keoghan, and Salma Hayek.

Harington spoke about his Eternals character for Total Film's cover story on the film (via GamesRadar). As he's previously mentioned, Harington had to Google his character when he was first cast. Now that he's played Dane, though, he still remains unaware of what the future might hold. Harington explained:

"I’ve got no idea whether my character goes on or not. I had read up on who he could be, or might be. So there’s the possibility for a longer trajectory. And hopefully, I think this is the tip of the iceberg for my character. I hope. But I just don’t know, you know? I’m as in the dark as anyone else. And I try not to live too far ahead in the future with anything. Even when I was in Game of Thrones, even on the sixth season, I presumed the seventh season wasn’t going to happen!"

Kit Harington Admits He Googled His Eternals Character Before Filming

It's smart of Harington to not get too caught up in what's coming next, though it seems likely that there is something coming. Provided Black Knight doesn't die in Eternals, it stands to reason that he'll go on to play a major role in the MCU. The franchise rarely introduces heroes it doesn't revisit, and with an actor of Harington's stature playing him, there's bound to be more for Dane. In the comics, Black Knight is an incredibly powerful hero, and while Eternals is so far keeping his abilities a secret, he will surely play a pivotal part in the movie. That could then pave the way for future MCU appearances.

Eternals might see fit to reveal more about Dane in the lead-up to its release. At the same time, with so many characters to introduce, he might end up taking the back seat during the movie's promotion. Already, Dane's made just a handful of small appearances in the Eternals trailers. With the movie slated to arrive in theaters this November, fans won't have to wait too much longer to learn all there is to know about Harington's Black Knight - including whether his story will continue elsewhere.
