This allowed each of the characters to develop in different ways and live their lives among humans while lying low and keeping their true selves hidden. Through the movie, each member of the team played a different role in the final conflict and they had comments that summed up their personality perfectly.

Sersi

"It's beautiful, isn't it?"

Ikaris and Sersi facing off in The Eternals.

Out of all the Eternals, the main hero of the movie is Sersi, and she revealed exactly the type of person she is early on. The powerful Marvel cosmic characters were headed to Earth in their spacecraft and she looked out at the planet and said "It's beautiful, isn't it?"

It was Sersi whom Ajak chose to rule the team, and much of this is because she had a love of the people of Earth. Just when the Eternals was supposed to let the people of Earth die, Sersi wouldn't allow that to happen and agreed to put her life on the line to save the planet.

Ikaris

"I wouldn’t mind leaving this world."

Ikaris in the final battle in The Eternals.

Ikaris was the one person who looked like the actual leader of the Eternals. He was a strong and powerful warrior, and he even seemed like a perfect person to serve in the Avengers if needed. However, in the end, he revealed that his only concern was completing their objective.

This meant letting the humans die and allowing Earth to be destroyed. He had a comment when the Eternals were together that showed this attitude perfectly when he said to Sersi, "I wouldn't mind leaving this world."

Thena

"When you love something, you protect it."

One of the most complicated and intriguing characters in The Eternals was Thena. She was the only one who knew something was wrong, and this caused her brain to constantly malfunction and try to attack her own friends. However, she was a fierce warrior who only wanted to help them.

Thena said, "When you love something, you protect it." While she was a danger to everyone around her, she did everything she could to fight those impulses and in the end, protected everyone on Earth. This was something she did since the Eternals first arrived on the planet.

Gilgamesh

"I Thought We Were Heroes — Turns Out We're The Bad Guys."

Gilgamesh was easily the most heroic and bravest member of the Eternals because he cared more about protecting his loved ones than he did battling demons. He proved this early on when he chose to live with and protect Thena for over a thousand years.

When he learned what the Eternals are and what they were sent to Earth to do, Gilgamesh said "I thought we were heroes — turns out we're the bad guys." This shows who Gilgamesh is inside, as he knows right from wrong more than almost any other member of the team.

Kingo

"I refuse to hurt any of you for my beliefs."

Kingo was the one member of the Eternals who didn't want to fight as much as his teammates. However, when needed, he was there to battle Deviants and he worked hard to protect those he loved. He cared about all his teammates, with Ikaris as the one he really looked up to.

When Kingo learned that Ikaris was going to fight his other friends, he refused to take a side. Kingo said, "I refuse to hurt any of you for my beliefs." It showed his character perfectly, and he refused to fight the final battle because he was loyal to his friends and wouldn't take sides in a civil war.

Ajak

"This planet, and these people, have changed all of us."

Ajak looking to the distance in Eternals.

Ajak was the one member of the Eternals who knew the truth. As their leader, it was her job to put them in their places, lead them to destroy all the Deviants, and then keep them prepared for when the time came to let the Celestial destroy the Earth. But she changed on Earth.

"This planet, and these people, have changed all of us," she told Ikaris. This showed the personality she displayed throughout the entire movie — she cared for the Eternals and she grew to care for the people of Earth. She died for her beliefs.

Sprite

"I can’t pretend to be human anymore."

Sprite talking to Ikaris in The Eternals.

Sprite had a tragic storyline. She seemed like the youngest member of the Eternals, but as the movie showed, these characters didn't age. Because Sprite was put in the body of an 11-year-old girl, she never had a chance to live the same life as her teammates. She said, "I can't pretend to be human anymore."

This led to her decision at the end where she joined Ikaris, whom she loved from afar since they arrived on Earth. She never could experience what her teammates did while on Earth, and it was her dissatisfaction with her life that led her to leave the Eternals.

Druig

"Could our mission have been a mistake?"

Out of all the Eternals, Druig was the first to rebel against their original orders. Humanity took the lessons the Eternals taught them and the tools that Phastos made, and they became violent and warlike. Druig disobeyed orders and stopped their fighting, leading them away and to peace.

Druig said to his teammates, "Could our mission have been a mistake?" It was a question that led his entire life on Earth, as he never felt comfortable with their role on the planet. He took Sersi's side in the end and proved he would always do the right thing regardless of their orders.

Makkari

"Are we finally going home?"

Makkari was one of the least utilized members of the Eternals. She spoke only in sign language, and the one line that defined her character the best was, "Are we finally going home?"

She was missing for many years, ending up by herself on the Eternals spaceship. When the team showed up after learning what they were, Makkari was there alone, with a collection of stuff she collected over the years. She never felt she fit in and it made sense she would leave the planet in the end.

Phastos

"I wouldn’t change a single thing about who I am."

Phastos was one member of the Eternals who fell out of love with humans. He wanted to help them improve and evolve, but when he realized they used his knowledge and help to create a bomb that destroyed a country in World War II, he decided they didn't deserve to live. He changed.

Phastos fell in love, got married, and had a child. He lived and loved and became as much of a human as he could. "I wouldn't change a single thing about who I am," he said before the final battle. He knew who he was and refused to change anything, staying true to himself right to the end.
