Eternals Already Hinted Their Secret Has Been Revealed

The first Eternals trailer includes a scene from a Bollywood sequence that suggests the team's secret has been revealed – here's why.

The Eternals will introduce a new team of superheroes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, one that has been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years, but the first trailer for Eternals might have already hinted at their secret being revealed. With the Infinity Saga now over after the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, the MCU is finally moving forward with its highly-anticipated Phase 4. This new wave of content won’t just cover movies but also TV shows, and will introduce a bunch of new characters, both heroes and villains.

The first new team to be introduced in the MCU’s Phase 4 is the Eternals, an immortal alien race created by the Celestials and who have been living on Earth for thousands of years. Directed by Chloe Zhao, Eternals is set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, and will see the title team reuniting to protect humanity from the Deviants, their evil counterparts. The Eternals, then, have been around throughout the whole history of the MCU but haven’t intervened at all in any of this universe’s biggest events, not even the battles against Thanos in Infinity War and Endgame, and while their movie will most likely cover how their secret will be revealed to the world, the trailer hints at this already being out.

Although the Eternals have been hiding and blending in with humans for years and haven’t intervened to prevent major catastrophes, that doesn’t mean they haven’t helped humanity at all. A voice-over by Ajak (Salma Hayek), the leader of the team, explains they have “observed and guided” humanity, and Ajak is known to have aided the advancement of human civilization. Still, their nature and more remains a mystery to the world, but there’s one detail in the trailer (and one that is very easy to miss) that points at their secret already being revealed, and it has to do with Kingo’s (Kumail Nanjiani) Bollywood sequence and the outfit he’s wearing in it.

In Eternals, Kingo is all about living the celebrity lifestyle and becomes a Bollywood star in order to blend in with humans, and the trailer included a quick look at a Bollywood dance sequence. What stands out from this scene is that Kingo is wearing a costume copying that of Ikaris (Richard Madden), the tactical leader of the Eternals. This could be a hint at their secret being revealed to the world and Kingo taking advantage of it and using it in a movie, with him taking the role of Ikaris (for some reason). This, in turn, could suggest Kingo betrayed his teammates by revealing their existence and presence on Earth, though it could simply be Kingo taking inspiration from his fellow heroes but without actually revealing their existence, instead using their story as mere fiction.

Of course, it’s to be seen how the Eternals’ presence will be revealed to the world and if their role as watchers and guides will change after that. If Kingo was the one who made that information known, he will surely face some consequences when reuniting with the team, though all that will have to be left aside as they prepare to face the Deviants.
