Harry Styles is now part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Eros/Starfox, Thanos’ brother and one of many Eternals out there, but Marvel will have to change his powers for the MCU version of the character. The MCU’s tradition of adding one or two (or sometimes five, as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 did) extra scenes during the credits continues to be exciting for fans, while Marvel has gone from using them to tease the story of the next movie to introducing new characters, as it did with Styles’ Eros in the mid-credits scene of Eternals, the third movie in the MCU’s Phase 4 and the first in this new wave to introduce a brand new team.

Directed by Chloé Zhao, Eternals introduces the title team, who are an alien race created by the Celestial Arishem and who were sent to Earth centuries ago to protect it from the Deviants. The Eternals stayed on Earth and helped humanity progress but without interfering in their conflicts, which eventually created friction among them and led them to part ways. Following the death of their leader, Ajak (Salma Hayek), Sersi (Gemma Chan) was appointed as the new leader and learned the truth about their origin and purpose, as well as the fact that they aren’t the only Eternals in the universe.

By the end of Eternals, Thena (Angelina Jolie), Druig (Barry Keoghan), and Makkari (Lauren Ridloff) left Earth on the Domo in search of more Eternals while Sersi, Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani), and Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry) stayed on Earth and were later abducted by Arishem. The mid-credits scene saw Eros arriving at the Domo to present himself to the team and tell them he knows where to find the rest. Eros is introduced by his troll companion Pip as the brother of Thanos (though they look very different), and he’s also an Eternal, meaning he has powers of his own, but these will have to be very different in the MCU as those he has in the comics are typically used for or associated with pleasure and sex, something the MCU will surely avoid.

Harry Styles Eros starfox be an avenger

Although the MCU has changed its style, tone, and approach through the years, it still keeps a somewhat family-friendly vibe, so Starfox’s powers will have to be slightly adjusted to fit the MCU’s tone. Like the rest of the Eternals, Starfox uses cosmic energy, which gives him superhuman strength, resistance, and immunity to terrestrial diseases, along with accelerated healing. Starfox can harness his cosmic powers to fly at supersonic speed, but he’s mostly known for his psionic powers, which allow him to stimulate the pleasure centers in the brains of the people nearby. This can make people calm and open to suggestion, and when in physical contact, and with a direct line of sight between subject and target, Starfox can use this euphoria effect to make a person become infatuated with him or other people or objects, or make them feel good in his presence. Starfox can still use this control over people’s emotions in the MCU, but the pleasure side of it will have to be left aside – at least for a while, in case the MCU decides to go on a different route with future projects.

Although the MCU’s tone is not the same now as it was during Phase 1, it’s still avoiding a bunch of more mature themes (even if Eternals took one step forward with a specific scene between Sersi and Ikaris), and it’s not the time for Harry Styles’ Starfox to fully display his powers – still, it will be interesting to see how Marvel will address Starfox’s powers in the MCU and how they will visually represent them in future appearances.
