Eternals stars Barry Keoghan and Lauren Ridloff bring the ‘Drukkari’ romance to life off-screen in a cute new photo from behind the scenes of the new Marvel movie. Directed by Oscar-winner Chloé Zhao, Marvel’s Eternals follows a group of tight-knit ageless beings assigned to protect humanity from the evil Deviants. The Eternals are forced back together when the Deviants return after thousands of years to threaten the entire Earth. The all-star cast for Eternals includes Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, and Salma Hayek.

Two of the standout members of the superhero crew are Keoghan’s broody Druig who can control the minds of others, and Ridloff’s Makkari, a deaf hero with the ability of super-speed. Fans of the film took particularly well to the flirty and cute relationship between the two heroes, with an implied romantic future for the pair. The budding romance on-screen was something of a happy accident for the film, with Ridloff recently revealing in interviews that the implications weren’t present in the original script. In fact, writers Kaz and Ryan Firpo have confirmed that the original plan was for Druig to have a romantic link with Gemma Chan’s Sersi instead. Makkari in particular has been a fan-favorite breakout character of the new film, with her special effects-driven super speed one of the most visually interesting sequences of the movie.

Fans of the new film are eager as ever to see more of Druig and Makkari, and while they wait for news of a sequel to the superhero epic, behind-the-scenes photos such as this will have to do for now. The image proves that off-screen, Keoghan and Ridloff had just as much of an amicable friendship as their characters, and also proves the cast is aware of how popular the two have become. Eternals is in theaters now and is also heading to Disney+, reportedly in January 2022.
