A theory surrounding Marvel Studios Eternals has provided insight into how the film can tie into the MCU’s future through three specific properties. Eternals was released in November 2021 and told the fairly self-contained story of the titular Eternals and their battle with the Deviants and Celestials. With the film taking place largely in the fictional past and not tying to the wider MCU in the present day, many were left wondering how the film would eventually tie into the MCU’s Multiverse Saga.

Unfortunately for Marvel Studios and Chloé Zhao, director of Eternals, the film became the first rotten-rated MCU film on Rotten Tomatoes. Due to this lackluster reception and a notable lack of news concerning any future Eternals movies for Marvel, the questions of the franchise's place in the MCU only grew more frequent. However, a recent theory links the film to three future MCU properties through the film's deity-like creatures, the Celestials.

Tiamut’s Body Could Lead To The Creation Of Adamantium

Tiamut's crystalized body sticking out of the earth in Eternals.

This theory stems from Tiamut, the Celestial that was supposed to be birthed from Earth at the end of Eternals. However, as some of the team had grown fond of Earth, its people, and its way of life, they decided to stop the Celestial’s birth, resulting in Sersi turning Tiamut’s young body into an unknown crystallized substance. After this, Tiamut’s crystallized body was left in the Indian Ocean, prompting the question of how the wider MCU will be impacted by the Eternals' Celestial sticking out of the ocean.

The theory in question, however, answers this. In the Marvel Comics universe, there are two main types of extra-strong metal: Vibranium and Adamantium. The former is a big part of the MCU through the Captain America and Black Panther films. With Adamantium being a man-made metal in the comics, the theory states that Tiamut’s crystallized form could lead to mankind synthesizing Adamantium in the MCU.

How Adamantium Could Tie Into Captain America 4 & Thunderbolts

Vibranium and Adamantium could tie Eternals to three MCU properties, the first two being Captain America: New World Order and Thunderbolts. After the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and the establishment that many other nations in the MCU want Vibranium that Wakanda is unwilling to give out, it was confirmed that a mini-MCU arc based on wars for Vibranium would be focused on in both Captain America 4 and Thunderbolts. Tiamut's connection could come from the nations of the MCU synthesizing Adamantium as a way of combating the Vibranium technology of nations like Wakanda and Talokan.

Valentina Allegra de Fontaine will likely be at the head of this due to her new MCU role as the CIA's director, the agency being behind the attempts to mine Vibranium from beneath the ocean. As Val is largely being set up as a villain of sorts in the MCU with less than clear motivations, it is likely that the potential creation of Adamantium begins being used for sinister means. This would tie into Captain America 4 through Sam being an ally of Wakanda, likely attempting to stop potential contacts of Val like the Leader or Thunderbolt Ross, who have been confirmed for the film.

Thunderbolts is also set to include Val as one of the titular team members. However, the film could take inspiration from a recent movie like James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, and have Val act as the Amanda Waller-like character who orders the team to do undesirable acts such as using Adamantium to steal Vibranium and attack Wakanda/Talokan, for example. This would likely lead to the team going against her, with Bucky also being a friend of the nation. It is worth noting that this is all speculation but would make sense given what is known from the MCU when paired with the theory.

Adamantium Sets Up The MCU’s Wolverine

Arguably the main future MCU project that Tiamut being the catalyst for Adamantium in the MCU would set up is any possible Wolverine film. As is known from Fox's X-Men movies and Marvel Comics, Wolverine's skeleton was bonded with Adamantium which made his bones unbreakable and gave him his iconic Adamantium claws. If Adamantium is made part of the MCU through this Eternals theory, Val could also be made part of the Weapon X program that was responsible for Wolverine's Adamantium skeleton in the comics. It would not be the first time the MCU has changed comic storylines, and it would set up very logical plots going forward.
