Developer and publisher Total Mayhem Games has unleashed a release trailer for We Were Here Forever, an asymmetric cooperative puzzle game where skills and friendships will be put to the test. We Were Here Forever marks the fourth entry in the first-person co-op puzzle series from Total Mayhem Games, which takes place in Castle Rock. The first installment, simply titled We Were Here, launched on PC in early 2017, with console versions hitting the market in subsequent years. We Were Here Too launched in 2018, followed by the release of We Were Here Together in 2019.

This particular franchise emulates an Escape Room-type of experience à la Inscryption - minus the card game elements. Ubisoft has also dabbled in this style of game with Prince of Persia: The Dagger of Time, a VR Escape Game attraction that summoned two to four players to stop a malevolent Magi in the Fortress of Time. Of course, titles like The Room capture this experience as well. And some would argue the likes of the Resident Evil and Portal series similarly offer Escape Room-esque levels of tension.

Today, May 5, Total Mayhem Games, uploaded the first look at in-game footage for We Were Here Forever in a launch trailer. The all-new title will hit PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on May 10. While the co-op puzzle title will launch on PlayStation and Xbox hardware like its predecessors, Total Mayhem Games has yet to share a specific due date for the console versions. Akin to other asymmetric multiplayer games, We Were Here Forever emphasizes the importance of communication. Co-op players, who assume the role of Antarctic explorers, will need to act as each other's eyes and ears in an effort to solve Castle Rock's puzzles and navigate the so-called "spine-tingling story." Check out the release trailer in the video below:

The asymmetric puzzles in We Were Here Forever will give each player different information, forcing teammates to effectively communicate if they want to reach a solution. In terms of available tools, partners have each other, walkie-talkies, and their wits, all of which can make or break the chances of figuring out the realm of Castle Rock.

As far as co-op puzzle games go, the We Were Here series has become quite the success story. Total Mayhem Games has noted that 6.5 million people have explored Castle Rock across the first three installments. Impressively, We Were Here Too and We Were Here Together managed to shift one million units apiece on Steam alone. The latest entry could very well mark another success story for the franchise's creators.
