Sylvester Stallone Set for Escape Plan 3

Fans of the 2013 action-thriller Escape Plan co-starring Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger are in luck as Escape Plan 3 has just been announced. Following a worldwide box office take that brought in $137 million for the first film, Escape Plan 2 was put under development with returning screenwriter Miles Chapman attached and new director Steven C. Miller brought on board to take over for former lead helmer Mikael Håfström.

Given the fact that Stallone has officially left The Expendables franchise behind him, fans of the Hollywood action star should be excited to hear that he intends to focus his time on building the Escape Plan franchise into its own big budget property. With any luck, perhaps a few of his co-stars from the former blockbuster hit will come along for the ride as he continues to make a mark with the prison break movie series.

According to Deadline, plans for Escape Plan 3 are already underway just as production on Escape Plan 2 gets set to wrap up this week. Chapman is currently working on the script and Miller will return to direct, with Stallone already in place to continue as leading man and structural-security authority Ray Breslin. Escape Plan 3 will see behind the scenes help from returning co-producers Randall Emmett, George Furla, Mark Canton, and Zack Schiller, in addition to repeat executive producers Ted Fox, Mark Stewart, Barry Brooker, and Stan Wertlieb.

Escape Plan 2 Announced With Sylvester Stallone Returning

With Guardians of the Galaxy regular Dave Bautista lending his talents to the cast of Escape Plan 2, only time will tell how many other notable talents will decide to turn in future appearances in the budding action movie franchise. Stallone obviously knows how to lead when it comes to creating thrilling genre fare, and with any luck Escape Plan 3 will prove to be up to snuff when it comes to comparing it to past classics in the actor's impressive career.

It remains to be seen how much interest Escape Plan 2 will manage to attract when it sees eventual theatrical release in 2018 - the results of which will undoubtedly shape the course of how well Escape Plan 3 shapes up and performs subsequently. For now, Stallone fans around the world can begin getting ready for another franchise created by the same man who made Rocky and Rambo into household names and mainstream success stories.
