A trailer for Escape Plan 2: Hades has finally broken out. The original Escape Plan was a fun action thriller sold on the pairing of former action movie rivals Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Stallone starred as a security expert wrongly sent to a prison that's 'impossible' to escape from, with Schwarzenegger playing a follow prisoner who helps him do just that. The movie didn't set box office records on fire, but it was a decent sized hit, making much of its money overseas.

A sequel was announced in 2016 with Stallone returning, and his Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 co-star Dave Bautista taking over buddy duties. The production company obviously liked what they saw, because Escape Plan 3 was greenlit almost immediately, and has already been shot. Escape Plan 2: Hades sees Stallone's expert breaking into another high-tech prison to save a friend and must use all his skills to figure out the weaknesses of this supposedly escape-proof penitentiary.

A trailer for Escape Plan 2: Hades has finally arrived, giving action fans their first look. The ratio of action scenes appears to have increased, with a greater number of shootouts, car chases and fights. The movie has a slick look to it, and Bautista seems to be having fun as an old friend of Stallone's character. That said, it looks like a fairly standard retread of the original too, just with a bigger bodycount.

Escape Plan 2: Hades will be heading straight to DVD and digital platforms instead of cinemas, which perhaps isn't much of a surprise. Prior to the release of this trailer, there was little to no promotion or information on the film, and while the original received some good reviews, it didn't leave much of an impression on audiences. A film that pairs Stallone and Dave Bautista – in addition to being a recognizable brand – should help it turn an easy profit without the need for an expensive theatrical push.

That said, the film will be receiving a release in UK cinemas in July. Escape Plan 2: Hades co-star Curtis Jackson has previously commented on how successful the original was overseas, so the film might receive a theatrical push in other territories. There's still no word of Escape Plan 3's release date, but if Hades earns strong sales, it probably won't be far behind.
