As The Equalizer season 2 wraps up, Queen Latifah shares how a Denzel Washington cameo could happen in future seasons. The CBS crime drama is the second reboot of the franchise following the film series starring Washington. The television show stars Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall, a former CIA operative who uses her skills to administer justice in NYC as the vigilante known as The Equalizer, while Washington appears in The Equalizer and The Equalizer 2 as Robert McCall. Both the television series and the film franchise received average reviews upon their releases, despite both Latifah and Washington's performances being praised.

Still, both series performed well enough to continue. Recently, Washington confirmed that The Equalizer 3 will begin filming this year with the first two films' director Antoine Fuqua attached to direct. Latifah's McCall was also confirmed to be returning for future seasons. Before The Equalizer season 2 finale aired, CBS renewed the crime procedural for two more seasons. With work on the next installments for both series now confirmed, naturally questions arose about whether a future crossover between the two could occur.

Latifah tells Variety that the decision regarding a possible cameo appearance for the male McCall would not be up to her. Latifah shares that the choice for any cameos would be Washington's or Fuqua's, so she doesn't know what might happen in the future. The Equalizer star then adds that no matter what happens, she would be happy to work with Washington at any level. Check out Latifah's full response below:

"That’s up to D. It’s really between him and Antoine [Fuqua]. Obviously, I love him to pieces. I have the greatest amount of respect for him. What he’s done with the films has been incredible, and I’d be more than happy to connect with him on any level. It’s just kind of like that with us.

So, who knows what’s gonna happen? Who knows what could happen, but, I’m looking forward to whatever he’s gonna do, because I know when he gets in the zone, it gets in the zone. I’m gonna keep doing TVs Robyn McCall and let him keep rocking the movie version of McCall; I know we’ll both continue to deliver."

Latifah's response neither confirms nor denies any Equalizer crossover possibilities, but she does make it clear that a Washington cameo isn't the television series' focus right now. Instead, the goal seems to be to ensure that Robyn McCall can stand next to Washington's Robert McCall as a fully developed Equalizer, a goal that Latifah seems confident she can deliver. Considering both Latifah and Washington have made names for themselves as masterful performers, her confidence is well-earned.

While Latifah is open to the idea of Washington appearing in a future season of The Equalizer, she gives no mention of how the two Equalizers could connect. One possibility could be for Robert to step in briefly as Robyn's new mentor. Since McCall's former mentor, William Bishop, was written out of the show after Chris Noth was fired from The Equalizer, Latifah's character has been struggling to balance her family and her work. Washington's character could easily fill that new hole in her life. Still, as Latifah stated, Robert McCall's appearance in The Equalizer is up to Washington to decide.
