Henry Cavill has confirmed that he has completed filming for Netflix’s upcoming sequel, Enola Holmes 2. An adaptation of the young-adult novel series (itself a spin-off of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s original mysteries), Enola Holmes features the titular teenage sister of Sherlock Holmes, played by Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown, embarking on her own crime-solving adventures while searching for her missing mother. The film was a major hit for the streaming service and has acquired a dedicated fanbase that made a sequel all but inevitable. In May, the sequel was confirmed with several returning cast members.

One such member is star of The Witcher, Cavill, who was cast as another in a long line of cinematic Sherlock Holmes’. Cavill’s Holmes was very much a supporting player in the film, taking on the role of a supportive older brother who acknowledges Enola’s intelligence. When he considers becoming her legal guardian, Sherlock opts to leave her be, implying he has faith in the path she will forge for herself. This was a departure from the detached bohemian portrayal that modern audiences may be familiar with from actors such as Robert Downey Jr. and Benedict Cumberbatch. It was even enough for the Doyle estate to pursue legal action as these traits were only exhibited by Holmes in the few novels that they still had the rights to.

Cavill recently took to his Instagram to announce that he had completed his last day of filming for the Enola Holmes sequel. The post in question was a video of Cavill addressing his followers while walking around a dark area at night after completing a run. Cavill quickly mentions finishing his last day on the film before the topic of the video switches to exercise as he confesses to spending the entire day thinking of reasons not to go for a run. He then turns motivational as he says that, in spite of his mental attitude, he did ultimately brave a run in the dark and chilly location and feels all the better for it, encouraging his fans to get out there and do the same.

Cavill’s brief mention of his last day is all the information he gives in regard to the film as the post primarily appears to be aimed at motivating his fans to exercise despite any doubts they may be having. The actor has proven to take his physical well-being to heart and often uploads motivational and heart-warming posts to his feed that encourage fans to prioritize exercise and healthy living in a positive, non-judgmental fashion. Since getting into superhero shape to play Superman in the DCEU in 2013, Cavill’s broad, hunky physique has been a significant part of his star image, which made his casting as the enigmatic Sherlock Holmes a very left-field choice.

It’s not yet clear how large a role Cavill may play in the next installment of the series after being a minor inclusion in the first. Fans may be eager to see Sherlock and Enola properly team up on a case now that the latter has come into her own as a detective in her own right, and the first movie featured very little interplay between the two. There may also be a wish to see several more elements of classic Sherlock Holmes iconography such as an introduction of long-time partner, Dr. John Watson. Regardless, fans will hopefully not have long to wait before more details are released for Enola Holmes 2.
