Captain America meets Red Skull to return the Soul Stone in new Avengers: Endgame fan-art. As original arch-rivals, Johann Schmidt and Steve Rogers first met in the 1940s as chronicled in Captain America: The First Avenger. Both recipients of the Super Soldier Serum - albeit different versions and effects, the pair wouldn't reunite until 2023, at the end of Thanos' debacle.

Once those who perished from the snap were resurrected and the Mad Titan and his minions defeated, there was only one final mission to be done  - return all the Infinity Stones from the time heist to their respective time and place setting so as not to create any alternate timelines. Steve was chosen to accomplish the finale Endgame task, bringing back all six crystals to their original locations - that meant reuniting with his old nemesis, Red Skull, who was the gatekeeper of Vormir where the Soul Stone was from. This is something that didn't play out on screen, making it a favorite topic of conversation among fans - one of them even visualizes what that meeting may have looked like.

Digital artist Camille Vialet's latest creation imagines Captain America encountering his old nemesis in Vormir. As seen in the image, the Super Soldier is still wearing his Quantum Realm outfit he wore earlier in Endgame during the time heist and is with his iconic shield. Check it out below:

There are a couple of interesting details in the aforementioned artwork. First, it's worth noting that when Captain America traveled back in time for his final mission, he didn't have his shield. In fact, before Thanos' defeat, it was already broken into pieces when the Mad Titan repeatedly hacked it using his sword. Second, it's intriguing that Steve is simply handing out the Soul Stone to Red Skull. Knowing full well how powerful the Infinity Stones are, coupled with his ugly history with the villain, one would assume that he would refuse to just give it to him without Red Skull explaining how he ended up in Vormir.

Right now, there's no indication that Marvel Studios has any plans revealing what went down during Captain America's assumed encounter with Red Skull, as well as his whole final mission leading to his reunion Peggy Carter. Whether or not they have any intentions of tackling this dangling plot remains to be seen. Kevin Feige and his team should know, however, that this is something that fans would be interested in seeing as proven by multiple pieces of fan-art visualizing what this encounter would've looked like. In the meantime, it's safe to say that this will continue to be a favorite topic of conversation among fans when discussing Avengers: Endgame.
