Directors Anthony and Joe Russo share Chris Evans' reaction to learning Captain America would wield Mjolnir in Avengers: Endgame. The epic moment comes during Endgame's climactic battle between the Avengers and Thanos, and needless to say, it blew fans away. The idea Steve Rogers might be worthy enough to pick up Thor's hammer is first teased as far back as Avengers: Age of Ultron, and finally seeing it fulfilled in such an awesome fashion is definitely one of Endgame's highlights.

It's only been a little over a year to the day since Endgame first released. In commemoration, many fans spent the recent weekend watching the movie and sharing memories of catching the Infinity Saga's conclusion on the big screen. A couple weeks earlier, a video capturing the moment an opening night audience first saw the scene of Cap picking up Mjolnir went viral, even catching the attention of the Russos. In the same spirit of that clip's collective joy over a super cool moment in a movie, several filmmakers have been participating in coordinated watch parties for their most popular movies. Many from the MCU have been selected for these events, and during the most recent watch-along for Endgame, the Russos shared a little insight into Cap's show-stopping moment.

While tweeting along to a watch party for Avengers: Endgame, the Russos were asked about when they revealed to actor Chris Evans that his character would be wielding Thor's hammer, Mjolnir, against Thanos and what was his reaction. Unsurprisingly, they reveal Evans was pretty psyched to learn Captain America would finally prove himself worthy. Check out the Russos' tweet on the matter, below.

Knowing how delighted fans were by the scene of Mjolnir dramatically flying into Cap's hand, it's fun learning Evans was just as excited. The moment is obviously only one of many major secrets Evans and the rest of the cast and crew had to keep prior to Endgame's release, but the surprise was totally worth it. Not only is the scene a big payoff to something the MCU previously hinted at, but its inclusion in the final fight against Thanos adds an even greater significance. For instance, Vision may have lifted Mjolnir in Age of Ultron, but he didn't swing it into the Mad Titan's face.

Cap's hammer swinging as well as shield throwing days are now behind him, with AvengersEndgame's final minutes revealing to audiences that after Steve finished returning the various Infinity Stones, he reunited with Peggy in the past. For many, it was a perfect ending for the first Avenger, following up his epic last battle with him finally getting to have that dance.
