Actor and comedian Pauly Shore shares an update for Encino Man 2. Shore began his career as a stand-up comedian, creating a surfer dude persona that propelled him to stardom in 1989 when he joined MTV as a video jockey. Shore starred in a series of films shortly thereafter such as Son In Law, In the Army Now, Jury Duty, and Bio-Dome. Although most of his films were not well-received by viewers, Encino Man stood as an outlier.

Encino Man stars Shore as Stanley "Stoney" Brown, best friend to high schooler Dave Morgan (Sean Astin). While digging deep in Dave's backyard to build a pool, the teenager uncovers a large block of ice with a caveman (Brendan Fraser) frozen inside. Soon the ice thaws, releasing the caveman into the 1990s to discover the wonders of the advanced world. Although the film was panned by critics, it was a box office success and quickly developed a cult following.

Screen Rant recently caught up with Pauly Shore who shared his thoughts on a possible Encino Man sequel. When asked about any updates of Encino Man 2 following Shore's recent Instagram post, the comedian explained that he still wants to do it if everybody is onboard and the script is right. Read what Shore had to say below.

"You know, it's really up to the fans because Disney+ knows about it and the producer, George [Zaloom], I know is wanting to do it. I know Brendan and Sean would probably do it if the script was right. There's a love for that movie to this day... Several years later, people realize, 'Wait a minute. This was actually a really fun, funny film. It's really held up for me.'"

"Those movies, people can make fun of them and the industry or whatever, but they've been putting food on my table for years and making people happy. There is a huge audience out there that really enjoys those... It was a point in time where I hit, where MTV was the hottest thing in the world, when everyone was looking at MTV, and I was right there. I was young, and it was awesome. It was pretty cool. It was a fun run."

Brendan Fraser, Pauly Shore & Sean Astin in Encino Man

Shore understands that the majority of his films were not hits by any means but also knows that he has a loyal fan-base who have grown to appreciate those movies. But a sequel would depend on the return of Fraser and Astin who are both at different points in their careers. Astin has continued with steady work on both television and film while Fraser has made a relatively recent comeback into acting following short break dealing with personal issues. Fraser is set to next star in the upcoming DCEU film Batgirl as the villain Firefly.

With the recent trend of legacy sequels being released, such as Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Terminator: Dark Fate, and Scream, there is an avenue for producing Encino Man 2. Perhaps not a film that would have traditionally been greenlit for the big screen, the advent of streaming services have also provided a platform for this kind of film. Disney+ already contains reboots, sequels, and spin-offs such as Turner and Hooch, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, and Doogie Kameāloha, M.D. Encino Man 2 would need to capitalize on the nostalgia of those who grew up treasuring the original and Disney+ is a proven platform for such a project.
