Patrick Dempsey confirms he will be back for Enchanted 2properly titled Disenchanted. Amy Adams might be known for starring in awards darlings and buzzy miniseries now, but the role that catapulted her into the big time came in a family-friendly Disney film. In 2007, Adams played Giselle in Enchanted, an animated-live-action hybrid that offered a new spin on the classic Disney fairytale formula. Enchanted follows the animated Giselle after she falls through a well and lands in modern day live-action New York City, thus leading to a journey of self-discovery and the meaning of actual true love.

Enchanted was a hit both critically and financially, yet Disney was slow to start work on a sequel. Rumblings of Enchanted 2 started in 2010, but the project soon entered a lengthy development phase as it swapped writers and directors. Adams expressed hope in Enchanted 2 happening back in 2018, but the official confirmation still took two more years. Last December, it was finally announced that Disenchanted is moving forward as a Disney+ exclusive, and that Adams will return as the bright-eyed Giselle.

Plot details for Disenchanted are still being kept under wraps, but now we know one major player will be returning. Patrick Dempsey, who played Giselle's cynical love interest Robert in the first film, will return for the sequel, as confirmed by himself on Good Morning America. "I just got this script for the second movie, and then I'm starting to go through and get notes together," Dempsey said. He also mentioned the film will potentially begin filming in the spring.

Dempsey is hot off another major return, as he reprised his Derek Shepherd on Grey's AnatomyFans will no doubt be thrilled to hear he will appear in Disenchanted, particularly since the first film ended with Robert and Giselle living happily ever after. Of course, the sequel and its title might suggest not everything is perfect with their ending. Could there be trouble in paradise for these two? That remains to be seen, but it isn't out of the question. It also remains to be seen if Robert's daughter Morgan (Rachel Covey) will be back.

Speaking of, Dempsey's return makes one wonder who else could pop up again in Disenchanted. Presumably, there will be a new villain at the center of the story, since Susan Sarandon's Narissa perished in the first film. However, Enchanted's second pair of lovebirds Prince Edward (James Marsden) and Nancy (Idina Menzel) could certainly be back. Menzel in particular has become a Disney princess in her own right since Enchanted was released, having voiced Elsa in the Frozen films. It might be fun to look back on her live-action Disney roots with a reprise in this sequel. If Enchanted 2 does begin production in the spring like Dempsey suggested, perhaps more casting news will emerge soon.
