Disney confirmed that there will be an Enchanted sequel titled Disenchanted with original star Amy Adams heading to Disney+. Enchanted follows Giselle (Adams) after she is transported from her fairytale land to bustling New York City. She quickly realizes that this new land is nothing like her mystical home. As she tries to find her way back home, she realizes that she has a place in this new world and with the family that took her in. The film was a major success when it released in 2007.

Disenchanted has been rumored for several years now. Talks of the sequel started in 2014 when J. David Stem and David N. Weiss were appointed to pen a draft for the sequel. However, there weren't many updates about the sequel since then. In 2018, director Adam Shankman revealed that the script was almost complete and contained a lot more songs than Enchanted. The sequel will act as if time has been passing normally in the film's universe. It will explore what Giselle's "happily ever after" with Robert (Patrick Dempsey) has been like and, as the title implies, life might not be a perfect fairytale.

Walt Disney Studios announced that Enchanted will be getting a sequel. The announcement came from Disney's World Investor Day during which new titles from Disney Animation, Pixar, Marvel Studios, Star Wars, Nat Geo, and Disney+ were revealed. Enchanted 2 will see Adams reprise her role as the whimsical Giselle. The sequel will be available exclusively to stream on Disney+. Disney has not confirmed if any of the other original cast members will return. Additionally, Disney has not confirmed a release date for the film.

Along with Disenchanted, Disney announced resurrections of several of its most iconic films like Sister Act, Cheaper By the Dozen, and Three Men & a Baby. Additionally, Disney+ will add new TV shows based on some of its hit animated movies including Baymax, Zootopia, Tiana, and Moana. Its clear that Disney is leaning into the trend of remakes and sequels. Disney has always known how to profit from nostalgia, and this new slew of releases is no different. However, it does seem like Disney plans on reinventing the classics that they're reviving, which is refreshing.

Enchanted is a movie that was beloved in its time, and fans are, as expected, ecstatic about the prospect of a sequel. The film was a very unique concept, and by the looks of it, the sequel appears to be taking on a different tone than its predecessor. Disney can take on some serious issues and explore the disenchantment of marriage and family. Additionally, the prospect of Disenchanted being more of a movie-musical than Enchanted is exciting. Only time will tell whether the sequel will meet expectations.
