A recently revealed deleted scene from Disney's 2021 animated film Encanto features Mirabel discovering elder sister Isabela's cut love interest. Doom Patrol star Diane Guerrero voices the eldest sister of the lead character's family in the musical fantasy comedy. Guerrero is joined by Stephanie Beatriz, who voices Mirabel Madrigal, alongside María Cecilia Botero, John Leguizamo, and Jessica Darrow.

In Encanto, Isabela is the elder sibling to Mirabel and Luisa (Darrow), who possesses the gift to make flowers bloom at her will. Seen as the perfect and successful child of her family, she and Mirabel butt heads due to Isabela's supposed flawlessness. However, when she is scheduled to be engaged to neighbor Mariano Guzman (Maluma), Mirabel learns her sister struggles to live up to everyone's perception of her, with the two becoming close when Mirabel helps Isabela accept her imperfections and flaws, becoming more confident in herself. Though songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda was impressed by the animator's work, some ideas never made it into the final cut, including one which adds a layer to Isabela's story.

After seeing a mysterious figure grab her sister, Mirabel chases the pair down in a tense sequence, believing her sister has been attacked by what appears to be a wild animal, only to discover it is a cut character called Bobo Marquez. Isabela checks to see if Bobo is hurt, before kissing the man as Mirabel watches in disgust. Isabela asks Mirabel to go home and not tell Abuela Alma (Botero), with Mirabel discovering her sister planned to leave with Bobo. Check out the full animatic below.

Encanto topped the thanksgiving box office in November, with critics and audiences praising the film for its cultural perspective and representation, as well as its explorations of generational trauma and familial reconciliation. Miranda's songwriting was also quickly embraced by fans, with many of the films' songs spreading across social media. "We Don't Talk About Bruno," the song detailing the tragedy of lost Madrigal son Bruno (Leguizamo) picked up a great deal of traction on TikTok, with users using the sound clips to recreate the sequence.

The revelation about Isabela's cut love interest is interesting, as it would greatly change the character's story final cut of Encanto were it included. While Isabela did struggle with her engagement to Mariano, the final cut places more emphasis on her living up to familial expectations rather than her romance. The inclusion of Bobo would draw more attention to her romance rather than her internal struggle, perhaps making her arc less personal than what the final cut established.
